My boyfriend and I were craving KBBQ, so we decided to try Gogi-en. He’s been here before and brought home galbi and marinated galbi that were amazing. Because of that experience, we came in with high expectations and were really excited.

At first, I liked this restaurant for its cleanliness and cute decor. The overall ambiance gave a very pleasant first impression. However, my experience today was quite disappointing. I was not satisfied with the service or the food quality.

When the server brought us to our table, she seated us at the front near the entrance by the snack corner. We asked if we could move to a table in the back, but she told us those tables were for non-bbq guests. We were okay with that and stayed. However, shortly after, we saw other parties being seated in the back and eating KBBQ. That felt inconsistent and honestly disappointing.

We ordered the yookhwe (beef tartare) bibimbap ($20.95), the Korean beef BBQ combo for two ($119.99), prime rib ($44.95), and makgeolli. Honestly, the portions were lot smaller than I expected for the price. Brisket only came with 6 thick pieces and galbi came with 9 to 12 pieces depending on how you cut them. The last straw was just seeing 10 small pieces of prime rib.

As for the taste, it was decent but not the best. The banchan, doenjang jjigae, and steamed egg were good, but the beef was tough and hard to chew. The sauce on the marinated galbi actually hardened like candy after grilling and stuck to my teeth and the plate. We cooked most of our meat ourselves, which we didn’t mind, but it seemed like our server was busy with other tables.

Overall, I was disappointed and probably won’t be back. If you’ve never had KBBQ, it might still be worth (?) a try considering for the authentic experience, but I don’t think the service, portions or quality make it worth the price.

Second time going. Similar experience before. Food was ok, not very spicy and small quantities for the price. Surprised to only get 5 banchan plates for a family of 4. Service was ok, nothing exceptional. Some dishes came out after most of the meal had finished. No spoon for soup etc. Overall just ok. Not impressive enough to return regularly. Not bad enough that I would avoid. Decor is modern style with TVs everywhere – not ideal with kids given some K-pop content.

We were here 2 times. Food was good overall. Tobbokki rice cakes was overcooked and has not much rices cakes compare to Seoul garden. Doenjang-jjiage (soybean soup) and kimchi-jjiage were tasting good. Banchan (side dish) was ok, but bean sprout, fish cake strips and chopped salad were lack of salt. Service was good. It’s a decent place to come.

This place is my new go-to spot for korean food in northeast ohio. No other place in the Cleveland area hit all the boxes for me in a korean restaurant until this place opened. Quality of food- check. Ambiance- check. Service-check.
I’ve never had their kbbq so I can’t speak on that, but their made to order dishes are PHENOMENAL. First, their kimchi which I’m pretty sure they make in house is the best kimchi I’ve had at a restaurant, I’d buy it in a heartbeat if they sold containers of it. Also their potato salad side dish is so smooth and not-too-sweet, you have to try it to understand how good it is. I would recommend their seafood pancake which is sooo thin and crispy with generous amounts of seafood. Tteokbokki is also a very good appetizer to start with. Their kalbi– veryyyy delicious and well marinated though if you’re with a bigger group, I’d recommend ordering two. My favorite dish from them though is their cold buckwheat noodle. The broth is SO refreshing with the thinly sliced pear and cucumber on top. It is the perfect menu item to cut through heavier dishes you may have ordered. Those are the dishes that I continue to come back to each time I visit. They’ve improved their tables and grilling set up which to me shows that they’re always trying to make the dining experience more pleasant.
Seriously, so good. The best korean spot in northeast ohio is this place in Solon.

This is my absolute favorite Korean restaurant! It’s the best place to enjoy authentic Korean BBQ. The meat is incredibly fresh and juicy, and all the side dishes are delicious. They also provide fresh wrap vegetables and offer unlimited refills upon request. Best of all, the place is spotless and the staff is so friendly. Highly recommended!

I was so pissed off today at how they tried to rip off customers. I have been coming to this place a lot of times but the last two times it was horrible. I recommend this place to a lot of my clients in Solon area hoping they will get some business. What happened was I ordered rice cake (tobbokki) and I got less than half of the container. I only got 4 pieces of rice cake and 1 piece of fish cake and an egg. I came so many times so I know how much a portion should be. It’s sad because while you were trying to support local business and you ended up being ripped off. I’m sorry but i’m not going back here.
