The vibe? Weird. Like walking into a Midwestern swingers convention. AARP cards on the table, knowing glances across the room, and laughter that hinted at after-hours plans. If Walton Goggins had appeared from the shadows with a sly grin and a key to the back room, I wouldn’t have been surprised.
The food? Classic catalog: edible, fine, but nothing that made me want to take a picture of it.
But the server? She was the MVP of the night. Friendly, attentive, and working way too hard for what I’m sure she was getting paid. It was just her and another half-present staffer handling everything, and despite being clearly stretched thin, she kept the beers coming, checked in often, got the game on, and even managed to smile through the chaos.
So yeah, the place feels like a confused mix of sports bar, retirement community mixer, and dive, and the food’s just OK.
But that server? She deserves a raise.
Would I come back? I have no reason to. But my server is the only reason we stayed.
Unfortunately, when I went to eat the chili cheese fries from that order a couple of days later, I found a dried-up bug in the chili after I had already eaten most of it. It was clearly cooked in, not something that ended up there later. I logically got sick right after because that was disgusting and felt violating.
I reached out to the restaurant, and while the manager responded promptly and politely, they ultimately declined to offer a refund, citing that the food was remade outside of their usual procedures and taken off-site. While I understand their policy and appreciate the initial gesture of remaking the food, I’m frustrated that a serious issue like this was brushed off. Especially since I know for a fact that the food was never left out, went straight into our fridge, and the presence of a cooked-in bug seems like a kitchen issue, not a storage one.
Prior to the finding a bug in my food issue, the food was good but unfortunately a whole dried bug trumps any positivity about the experience.
When I mentioned it to our waitress(who could’ve cared less) said ok, do you want another round of beverages. Then we got the bill and sticker shock for quality of food and lack of customer service. Our bill was $35 more than other local establishments in the area that have better food and service.
