I’ve been craving jerk chicken for a while. Thought I would give them a try.
Not very welcoming, even have their lunch menu sign blocking you from going too far in. On the other side of the sign, they have a chain to keep you in the front.
My preference on jerk is that the sauce be a sauce, here it’s more of a gravy. It even has a gravy powder taste. I was asked if I want mild or hot, but if that was hot I doubt the mild has ANY flavor. For heat, I would call it more bland, than hot! Basic flavor was good, not great but good. Cabbage was probably better yesterday , but did have a better than average flavor.
I’m not sure how to put this, but it’s like the lady taking your order has to pay for her words. Seriously lacking in conversation, even when asked questions. You get a canned soda with the lunch but she won’t tell you your options, even after I asked a second time. I had to walk back into the forbidden zone to see they carry coke products.
Not wanting to be too critical on the review, but I have never felt so unwelcomed in a restaurant

Should’ve read the reviews. Everything is BLAND. Mac and cheese was a solid block of unflavored cheese. Oxtails had no flavor, idk how that happens. Yam had this weird after taste and the rice tasted like it was a day old. It was SOOOOO hard

Sorry I didn’t show you the full serving because as soon as the smell hit my nose …it was over with. I got curry chicken, yams and rice and peas. Definitely going for round 2

The food here is amazing! We smelled the food and followed our nose. We were not disappointed! We got the Jerk Chicken, rice and peas, and Mac and cheese and everything was so good!!! The chicken was so juicy and tender it was falling off the bone. We will be going back.

Edit 5/3/2024:

So we went back! It’s still great. This time we got the ox tail and a beef patty. Both are amazing! Neither was too salty or sweet and they both had the best flavor. I wasn’t able to get a picture of the beef patty because I just devoured it but I do have a picture of the ox tail.

I came to this restaurant because my usual spot closes at 8 pm. I called my order in 10 minutes before I arrived. When I came to the restaurant there is only two people working, one in the front and one in the back. I should have took this as a sign to leave since they were not cooking, only plating the orders. It took another 25 minutes to get my order. The service was not great per usual but I’m use to that in Jamaican restaurants. The most important thing to me is the food. Well the food was not worth the wait. Chicken was dried out and I was given maybe 2 pieces that were completely broken up. The rice was also dry, no coconut milk was used anywhere near that rice. For almost $30 I couldn’t believe the amount I received and how much the flavor was lacking. If you’re going to charge that much and make your customers wait for that long your food better be at least somewhat good. I ate a few bites and the rest went into the trash. Still hungry so I headed out to Taco Bell. It was a DISAPPOINTMENT! NEVER AGAIN!

It was simply…OK. This is my first time at this establishment and I probably won’t be back. I ordered a small oxtail that automatically came with a ton of rice and peas (that were sweet and somewhat dry…stingy with the gravy which was also sweet) and cabbage (which was the most delicious part of the meal). I ordered some mac and cheese as well and that was bland and greasy. The oxtails were tender though. The flavors weren’t giving that authentic Jamaican.

Not a lot on the menu but what we had was DELICIOUS. My husband got the oxtail dinner and I got a spicy jerk chicken. Both were very good! I don’t even like cabbage and their cabbage was really good. This is the best Jamaican food I’ve had in Hampton roads. Definitely recommend.

This was my second time having this restaurant and I do not feel I got my money’s worth. The cabbage and yams were not flavorful. The jerk chicken and rice were good, but they were skimpy on the chicken. For it to be a large, the portions were that of a small.

Nastiest jerk chicken I’ve ever had seriously. Yellow rice was also terrible along with the candied yams. Idk how you make bland jerk chicken but they accomplished to. The Mac and cheese was the only decent thing on my tray!
