The food was superb great flavor and taste. Good place to stop for lunch and dinner, outside seating with a pleasant atmosphere and decor. Recommend this as a driving stop to check out while in downtown Martinsville, Indiana

Holy Smokes was this ever a find! We decided to take a route through Martinsville to avoid traffic in SR 37 and hopefully find a place for dinner. This place looked cute so we tried it. First clue we would be happy: fried biscuits and apple butter immediately delivered to our table along with menus! The brisket sandwich was huge.. so glad I asked the waitress to serve it open face. Smokey and delicious. I tried all 5 types of BBQ sauces.. all great. The menu is ala carte. The green beans were a taste of mom’s cooking. I give a max of 4 stars with only 1 visit, but we will be back to confirm a 5.

It was an overall disappointing experience. Let me start with the good – the service was great. There were also complimentary fried biscuits with apple butter. The sodas were good and the waitress brought along water – probably bc of the temp but it was a nice touch. Then there’s the rest of the story. The AC wasn’t working – okay thing happen but it was miserable inside – so much so we had to pack up our food to go bc the heat made us nauseous. What I can’t forgive were the flies buzzing around us inside of a restaurant. Then there was the food quality – we started off okay with a tater tot appetizer and might should have stopped there but didnt. The ribs were hard and crispy. The pulled pork was served in a puddle of liquid. The brisket was dry and rubbery despite having a pretty smoke ring on it. The fried mushrooms were served room temperature. The majority of the food wasn’t worth trying to eat even in the comfort of AC. There were 3 adults and one child, with a 10% discount for the temperature, we spent $91. There were a lot of mixed reviews so we gave it the benefit of the doubt – however, given the food concerns and the flies we will not return.
While all of this was going on the manager/owner/whoever was in charge loudly announced they were going home so we did not address the concerns with anyone as the waitstaff were more than apologetic and understanding.

Used them for catering for my sons wedding, very disappointing. We paid to feed 120 people but only 60 attended. All the pork was eaten but we had over 30 buns left. Where’s the rest of the pulled pork? Who knows. They sure didn’t send enough for 120 people.
At first the corn on the cob was really good. Half way through they put our different corn, the frozen kind like you’d but at Walmart, that was overcooked and inedible.
The fried biscuits for the apple butter were cold. We were told they’d bring plenty of biscuits but we ran out again with only half the people we paid for.
They never told us when they were leaving, they just took off. We were supposed to get any leftovers but since they left without telling anyone we couldn’t see if they had anything left or they took them with them. They claimed there were no leftovers but everything ran out feeding 60 people when they were supposed to have enough for 120. It doesn’t add up. Either they didn’t send enough food and if all those people showed up half couldn’t have eaten or they took slot of food with them.
All we got were excuses when they were contacted. We sent pictures of the inedible corn. She said the corn was overcooked. Made an excuse for having 2 different corn on the cobb. In the meeting and sampling we were told no problem getting corn but after said it was a problem. They never said a word. If they couldn’t get enough good corn why didn’t they tell us so we could substitute instead of buying frozen corn at the store?
There was no offer for a refund or anything to make up for the problems. Only a half hearted apology and excuse after excuse.
This was for a wedding. You know how important weddings are. Well, this wedding sure wasn’t important to Holy Smokes. Everything else went great but they will always remember how let down they were by Holy Smokes.

An excellent little local restaurant! A great addition to the Martinsville food scene. The staff is very helpful and the food is delicious! Also has good beer prices on the local craft beer brewed right there in Martinsville.

New around bbq place, food not that great for the price. Ate at Gray’s in Mooresville for same price and got more food and tasted way better for same price.
