My new favorite sushi restaurant in the area. Definitely family owned but they have excellent customer service. Clean environment and very friendly. Sushi itself tasted delicious. Love their steak and would highly recommend. One thing was their salmon was kinda thin, I would rather get the steak more. Other than that, no complaints! Would definitely come back here again

Thinking of dinner, we remembered seeing a sushi place behind a corner drugstore. It was not an impressive location but that turned out to be irrelevant. Inside was a lovely, comfortable full-service restaurant and a cheery welcome from the person on duty. The menu was large, with lots of variety, several interesting beers and reasonable prices. We ordered a Coedo Shikkoku, a Unagi, a Dragon and an OMG roll.
It did take some time for our order to be ready but we had a bowl of tasty edamame to keep us company. Upon seeing what was placed on the table in front of us it became clear the wait was justified. Everything was beautiful and perfectly delicious. The beer was exactly-right cold, the rolls were creatively and lovingly prepared, fresh-as-could-be and full of flavor. The special rolls were each a unique treat. Yes, everything was perfect. There was much more to try on the menu so we will be back to Sushi Star soon with our sushi-munching friends.

I pretty much compare all sushi places in the area to this one. The food takes a while to get to your table but is 100% worth the wait. I loved how the waiter offered to fill our water even after we had already paid the bill. Genuine honest folks here with fantastic sushi

Absolutely delicious! We drive 30 minutes to get here because it’s THAT good. The rolls never disappoint — fresh and flavorful. And the omakase nigiri is another favorite of ours. Highly recommend giving this place a chance!

Don’t be fooled by the mall location, this is not your average sushi restaurant. The fish is some of the freshest and most flavorful we’ve ever had, the selection impressive, and the chef’s presentation is a work of art. The service is attentive and friendly to perfection, we had our server (possibly the owner?) bring a free appetizer and sake because they were busy and we had to wait a couple of minutes for one of the dishes. We live more than an hour away, but have eaten there three times already, and will continue to do so anytime we’re in Sacramento. Congratulations to the owners and staff, dining with you is a treat and a pleasure!

I’m so happy to find a wonderful Sushi place in Citrus Heights! The reviews I read were not exaggerated. The food is hot, fresh and delicious… 😀 The place is clean and casual.
My tempura was crunchy, and lightly battered …not greasy. The Avocado/ asparagus roll was delightful! My daughter got the Lion King and Dragon rolls, which were delicious the day we got them and on the following day. (Leftovers! )
The chicken hibachi was fantastic, lots of fresh veggies, loads of tender chicken AND fried rice with miso soup. Great proportions.
Already recommended to friends who went there today and loved it. This will be a regular treat for our family!

Stellar Sushi Experience at Sushi Star
Sushi Star truly exceeded our expectations! The freshness of the fish was simply divine, elevating every bite to a culinary delight. The generous portions left us feeling satisfied without breaking the bank.
The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring our dining experience was smooth and enjoyable. They were even accommodating to our dietary needs, happily customizing a roll for my partner who doesn’t care for avocado for whatever illogical reasons

Affordable sushi that was actually good! We went here for lunch (around 11:45am) and the place was just open for the day so we were seated right away. The food came out pretty fast.
– california roll: lots of filling and good. My kid loved it and finished it all
– spider roll: soft shell crab was crispy and generous pieces of the crab. The sauce was good
They made a cute orange character for my kid at the end of the meal. We’ll be back when we’re in the area

Family owned small restaurant. Sushi rolls are very well made, clean and fresh ingredients, Sashimi has a good and fresh assortment. Place is well kept and clean. I especially like the rice they make, in their fried rice and sushi rice very soft texture, perfect! Must try if you’re in the area.
