Service can be improved and the vegetarian offerings can definitely be better. But on the upside, the price point is actually quite decent and the complimentary chips and salsa is delicious!
Now for the details:
We came for lunch on Tuesday and there was just one other table of guests. The restaurant is dimly lit, but it seemed clean and there were no funny smells.
The server greeted us and brought warmed chips and salsa right away. The chips were nice and crispy with just the right amount of salt and the salsa is very tasty. We asked for hot sauce and they delivered, hot and delish. If you like spice, you won’t be disappointed!
The two servers were friendly enough, but usually no one was around and you’ll have to wait for them to do something at the bar and look up to ask for things. One server did check on us during the meal. However, before ordering, the other server was supposed to go and check with the chef to see if they had any dishes with chicken thighs/legs instead of breast, but she never came back to continue taking the order. When we mentioned that to the other server who came a little later, he never went to check either. So, chicken breast it was!
The cocktails were decent and reasonably priced. I found it odd that they didnt offer us waters at all though, especially since this is clearly a location you would need to drive to. But that’s not the end of the world.
Please note that the beans that accompany the dishes have beef in it (no one in my party eats beef). Good thing we asked, because even though I made it clear I was a vegetarian (I even said it in Spanish to make sure there was no confusion), the server did not mention the meat in the beans that comes with the vegetarian fajitas. I asked what veggies were in the fajitas, but the server did not seem sure.
Now for the fajitas itself… It was hot and sizzling, which is always nice. The sweet onions and bell peppers were tasty, but most of the vegetables included should not be there and were over cooked. Who uses frozen mixed vegetables in fajitas??? Also, the pico de gallo looked stale… The tomatoes had a bit of a crust on it, so you can tell it was sitting out for a while. And there was no cheese, which is a first for any fajita I ordered anywhere. I also had to ask for tortillas, as they did not bring it with my meal. When I did get it, the corn tortillas were soft and tasty.
I suspect the rice might have chicken broth in it, not sure.
I was told the chicken dish was decent. Not out of this world, but ok.
This restaurant has potential and can be an amazing gem , but management needs to make some improvements. For a place that’s not busy, I expect much better service. And if I ask for a vegetarian meal, I expect no meat products and fresh food.
We tried the Magarotas that were delicious. A little pricey but authentic and delicious.
We got fresh hot free salsa and chips with our lunch also.
The restaurant is very dark though. The lighting has painted art on the light covers which adds to the poor lighting. The furniture is dark also so I would recommend making it a little brighter as the menus were a little difficult to read.
I am looking forward to my next visit to sample other items on the menu.
