Just a heads up though, the shop gets pretty crowded on weekends so be ready to be standing very close to the people around.
The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and patient, especially if you’re unfamiliar with Vietnamese coffee styles. They’re happy to offer recommendations and explain the differences between blends. On top of that, the shop is clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed.
What makes it more frustrating is how disorganized the order system seems to be. Numbers are frequently skipped, and people who ordered after me regularly receive their drinks first while others are still standing around waiting. On my last visit, someone with a number several spots after mine got their drink before I did, while someone who ordered before me was still waiting as well. It makes the whole process feel chaotic and poorly managed.
The coffee itself is okay, but the service and wait times completely ruin the experience. When you’re going to a coffee shop, you expect it to be relatively quick and organized. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case here. Until the service and ordering system improve, it’s hard to justify coming back.
Definitely recommend trying for their unique flavors and variety of drink choices!
My friend and sister went to speak to the staff about the incident, but the cashier was passing it off as “it’s how it’s made”. Then they asked to speak to the manager… The guy went to the back, came out to say that the manager said no… While they were waiting, we saw that the staff kept popping in and out MULTIPLE TIMES to gossip within earshot about my friend and sister. My friend insisted once again to speak to the manager and the cashier guy was resistant about it. Finally the manager came out to talk after several minutes had passed arguing with the cashier.
My friend explained to the manager that there was too much fatty cuts in the sandwich and barely any meat in it, but the manager had a hard time understanding, my sister had to step in and explain in Vietnamese. The manager understood and opened the sandwich and offered another item to replace it. She picked the croffle and the manager told the staff to make it for her.
After that, they both sat back down at the table and we waited for the item. Two staff members came to the table and stated “Just to let you know, we don’t usually do this, we will lose money, especially since you guys took a bite”.
I was shocked. My sister didn’t eat the ENTIRE sandwich and then complain afterwards. She only took ONE BITE. They acted like we were trying to strong-arm them into giving us free food!
I reiterated once again that the sandwich was full of fat… Staff excused it as
“that’s a different type of pork”.
I told them, “I understand what kind of pork it is, she has had this before, usually with this pork SOME fat comes with it, but this sandwich was made with mainly cuts of grilled fat and pate – we are Vietnamese, she’s had this in Vietnam, she knows what she’s eating”
The female staff kept arguing with me about it and insisting it’s a different type of banh mi and I asked her point blank why are you arguing with me and I don’t understand why you are saying you are losing money on it when it’s a bad quality product. The fact that they are excusing a bad product being sold as a “different cut of meat ” is truly dumbfounding.
At that point, I ask “why not offer a refund” and then the staff retorted that they are already making the replacement pastry, so I asked what was the point of her coming here to talk to us about it. Food safety wise, they can’t resell this and it’s so much cheaper to replace the product with another instead of a refund.
A short recap:
We came here before we had to make a trip home. We were looking forward to a nice, relaxing cafe place, but were met with hostility when calling out their wrong doings. Especially when prices nowadays are increasing, we didn’t deserve this kind of treatment. They could’ve fixed their wrong doings by remaking the sandwich with better cuts of meat, but would rather point the finger and publicly SHAME us for the sub par sandwich. Other employees came in and saw the situation and then instead of handling it professionally – the female staff nodded her head to our direction and what I assumed was explaining on her end the situation, in front of us and other customers.
The whole situation was extremely unprofessional, and could have been resolved with a simple remake, replacement or refund – instead they chose to be reluctant and resistant to right their wrongs and publicly shame us for voicing our opinions. You can check out other reviews on how inconsistent their banh mi is.
In other words, we won’t be back and would rather go next door to ChiCha San Chen because they actually care about quality of their products and will remake their items if it’s wrong!
