I have previously visited the Library for evening cocktails and very much enjoyed it.
Having arranged to catch up with a friend for some afternoon food and drinks in Bristol I was struggling to find somwehere nice to go. Standard afternoon tea in most hotels is quite frankly dull and un-inspiring most of the time.
A quick Google search came up to show that the Library is now doing afternoon tea and also light afternoon lunches.
Quick online booking and away we went.
Service here is professional and friendly, the staff were attentive and knowledgeable .
It’s the sort of place you want to dress up as you are going to spoil yourself. We opted not to have teas and instead went for a selection of their fantastic cocktails. These were full of flavour and served perfectly as was the champagne that we had later on in the afternoon.
The food menu is succinct but perfectly paired for an afternoon light lunch. We decided to choose a dish each and then share these out. The chef came out and presented some of the food. He politely asked if we could provide feedback as he likes to see what works. An absolutely charming guy who you can see knows his things when it comes to food!
Later on we moved onto some scones, these were freshly baked to order, were as light as a feather and full of flavour it was another star dish!
If you want a bit of adult you time with friends to catch up or just have a laugh then I can’t recommend this venue highly enough. Great location, excellent food and attentive and lovely staff.
The 2 female staff that served me were both really lovely – warm, welcoming and attentive.
Good location and reasonable prices.
The atmosphere was lovely at first (although I was the only customer so felt a bit dead), with well-chosen music, comfy chairs, and furniture and decor befitting of the vibes they wanted to create – think smoking room meets tea room meets library.
Unfortunately the atmosphere was shortly destroyed after I settled by who I can only assume was the owner having a long meeting on the table next to me about her £9k debt that must be paid back at £2k per month over the next 4 months etc etc (I won’t go into further details as some very sensitive stuff was discussed).
She projected her very loud voice the entire time, despite the 2 men she was meeting with (I assume who she owed the money to) being on the same table as her, without any thought of her customer’s experience, GDPR and/or confidentiality.
She really did ruin what started out as such a pleasant experience and I won’t be returning for afternoon tea with some friends as previously organised.
And friendly staff who look after you.
