Reviews
It is located in the middle of U of M, so parking will be an issue. Use a nearby garage and walk. Street parking is free on Sundays.
The pizza was AMAZING!!!! SOOOO DELICIOUS! I had the caprese. Omgn it was phenomenal!!! I was with two 12 yr old fussy eaters and even THEY loved their pizza slices!!!
Decor is simple: photos of the original Joe from NYC with various stars. Or photos of the stars eating Joe’s New York style pizza in NYC!! It was fun to see.
The counter worker who took our order & put the slices in the pizza oven was friendly and made good suggestions. He was quick, but also patient w the kiddos.
I will come back!!! We even told friends and they are excited to try it too!
I wasn’t even hungry, but I still ordered a Caprese slice—and it turned out to be the best slice of New York-style pizza I’ve had in a long time. The crust is thin and crispy, the sauce is slightly sweet and well-balanced, and the cheese and tomato are fresh and flavorful. Everything about it was just perfect.
The shop keeps the classic Joe’s vibe alive: a wall of celebrity photos, a counter lined with giant pizza trays, and that familiar, fast-paced energy. It’s amazing to see an NYC institution brought to life so faithfully in the Midwest. Highly recommend ed!
I remember when they first opened up here some 6-7 years ago, the pizza tasted like I was back home in NYC and I visited almost on a weekly basis. I would brag to my Michigan friends that this is what real pizza is suppose to taste like. But I haven’t been here for about a couple months till tonight, which I regret.
They made their slices wayyyy thinner than what they should be, tonight. Not sure if the crew got lazy making these pies due to the blizzard or what. But I think I only got 1 more visit in me left before I write them off as a place that’ll just, make and bake it because “where else would all the college kids go.”
That’s how bad my pies were tonight, usually I have to stop myself by slice 4, tonight I had to force myself to finish the first to feel like I got my moneys worth.
The crust is great and the cheese is probably Grande, which is good but the sauce is unremarkable.
If I had more time, I would hit Backroom Pizza. My friend says its better.
I was intrigued by the good online reviews, so I decided to try this place. I ordered a cheese pizza for delivery, no modifications. I was a bit disappointed to see so many big bubbles in the cheese when I opened the box. I tried a slice and was immediately disappointed. All I can taste is burned food. I have no idea what the sauce tastes like. All I taste is burn flavor. I can’t taste the cheese either. I’m not sure if it’s this place’s thing to overcook their pies or if I was just unlucky. I know some people really like dry, black, hard crunch, cracker pizza, but it’s definitely not for me. This pie was way over done. I’ll never understand why people like to eat food that just tastes like burned food. NYPD is so much better for authentic NY pizza, unless charred pie is your thing, then definitely order here!
