YamaChen Sushi continuously seeks ways to offer delicious tasting Japanese cuisine in an inviting and warm atmosphere. We started as a family business that first opened our door in 2003. Calling ourselves as just Yama at the time, we only had four tables, truly being just a hole in the wall. Through an arduous process of many trials and errors, Andy Chen was able to perfect the now YamaChen menu to that we know today. Each day, for our customers, Andy Chen brainstormed ways to improve the quality of our food, from our in house sauce to our fish providers, creating the signature YamaChen rolls that solidify our place in the restaurant sphere. He believes that his success is due to his motto: Freshness, Sincerity, and Generosity.

Reviews
The sushi was pretty good but the chicken and noodles dish was just middling. Good place if you’re in the area but not exactly destination dining.
Salad was good and avocado salmon was fine
Katsu- The quality was poor, I’m pretty sure the katsu was frozen and reheated it was also covered in a copious amount of white sweet sauce. It meant that the entire meal was incredibly sweet when usually eel sauce is enough. It’s fried pork, it’s hard to mess up
Sushi – the quality of the fish was poor. The tuna was certainly frozen to the point that it impacted the texture and flavor of the tuna. It was flavorless and had an odd rough texture. One roll was covered in crab (which was sweet imitation crab instead)
Ramen – they need to work on how they package this, usually you would separate noodles and soup, but that wouldn’t have saved the dish. The pork was very thin, presumably from frozen and leeched of flavor. The texture was also poor. The broth was also poor quality and was flavored more from the veggies and imitation crab that sat within instead of miso or pork (not sure what base they used)
The rolls were really fresh and just spot on with flavor. Shrimp tempura especially tasted just great. Really nice crunch to each bite too. Clean restaurant and calm atmosphere makes it a really nice spot to hang out or go on a date.
Menu size is large so you’ll find anything you’ll want here.
My partner and I came here to try it out as we’ve passed it several times in our normal commutes and WOW!!
We loved this place so much that we had to come back a few days later for more.
Our first date we had chicken ramen, 3 sushi rolls (Philadelphia, spicy tuna, and super duper roll), a beer, a glass of (amazing) plum wine, steamed gyoza, and complimentary edamame, 2 spring rolls, and 2 cheesecake squares. All of that for about $62 pre-tip!! That price for all of that food is unheard of in 2023. If you want this quality and dimension of taste in food anywhere else, you’ll easily pay double than you will ever pay at YamaChen’s.
Additionally, the service is phenomenal. The young lady that served us was so considerate and even brought over a little bowl for me to try my boyfriends ramen.
Our second date (first few pictures) we came back and ordered the chicken ramen again, fire chicken with rice, beer, plum wine (because I’m in love with it), 2 rolls (spicy tuna and salmon roll), with complimentary edamame, 2 spring rolls, and 2 cheesecake squares. Again, all for about the same price!!
Beautiful decor, amazing service both visits, and food to die for all for a great price.
10/10 recommended.
Appreciated the easy to read menu with good pictures, explanation and lots of options. We will definitely be back and look forward to it again soon!
