You got a choice of mushroom gravy or sausage gravy, I had the sausage. The best I’ve ever tasted. It was seasoned perfectly.
I’ll start with the worst: my chicken was undercooked and I didn’t notice until I ate half because it’s smothered in gravy (see photo).
Other issues:
It’s sincerely dirty in there. All you have to do is look around. One example is there are air ducts over the grills they cook on absolutely coated w dust and grime, there’s no way it’s not falling on the food. It really needs a deep clean.
Our order was wrong. I ask if they could add cheese to a sandwich, they charged me but they didn’t add it. My partner asked to sub the meat on his biscuit, they don’t do subs they said. That’s fine, they asked for extra gravy because last time there was like none on the biscuit. They charged him $3 for extra gravy making the total $20 for a biscuit. They forgot to give us the 3oz cup of $3 gravy so we had to go back for it.
For $20 a sandwich, there is much better food in Portland. Sad to see this place decline.
Service was fine – atmosphere was fine. I only gave it 4 stars because you have to bus your own tables and what not. But, I get it.
#1 Biscuits and sausage gravy: My cost-$00.50, Theirs-$10.00
#2 BBQ Biscuit: My cost-$00.89, Theirs-$12.00
#3 Reggue Deluxe: My cost-$1.15, Theirs-$19.00
So, a great menu, but, practically, for conspicuous consumers only! And BTW, my biscuits are better. I can not begin to imagine what they would charge if they cloned my chuckwagon biscuit, that uses bacon grease in place of shortening, and sourdough culture and 1/2 and 1/2 in place of water. Take a cooking class if you don’t have a clue. The cost will be less than a few visits to these price gouging, money grubbing, conspicuous consumer enabling, souless, mendacious Portland virtue signalers.
This spot was not the original place I wanted to eat because I was looking for something else, it’s not normal that I crave biscuits in the morning but since this is different from my normal morning time breakfast fiend, ill make the exception.
Hurry up and start talking the food! Alright alright:
The reggie deluxe: Fried chicken, bacon, and Tillamook cheddar topped with mushroom gravy and an egg. There was another choice but i went with the recommendation.
Absolute flames. First of all it’s a hearty sandwich this could be shared for two. I knocked out this monster right out the gate. Every time I kept taking a bite im like, wow i can keep going. They make their biscuits from scratch everyday so super super kudo points for that.
Blueberry Cornmeal Pancakes:
Big triple stack made from scratch with local blueberries and served with butter, lemon, and real maple syrup.
They serve you per pancake up on request, it my usual head two sounds good enough. These were nice size pancakes as well. The attention to detail with local ingredients just hits home. I can’t tell you enough about this place.
parking: pain in the butt as usual but I was lucky to find a spot early.
Come in and enjoy the hearty food, friendly atmosphere, and bottomless local coffee. Plenty of seating indoors and outdoors, with heating lamps above the outdoor dining.
They’re located right by a major railroad crossing so finding parking can be tricky if you’re not from the area as the sidestreet seems to get blocked by the train for long periods of time fairly regularly. This does make it a great place to people-watch though.
