We were just traveling thru, needed a place to eat, and like to support locally owned businesses. Based on other reviews, we weren’t expecting anything spectacular, but Joe’s exceeded our expectations.
First, fresh soup/salad bar is included with all entrees and has a little bit of everything. Be sure to try the sweet potato chips! I could have eaten my weight in those. Sweet tea was the best I’ve had in years (and the best pellet ice!). Seafood meals were good – sweet potato souffle was amazing if you like it sweet. This place felt nostalgic – like the Mom and Pop restaurants we used to see everywhere but didn’t survive Covid. Highly recommend you give Joe’s a try.

Well this was certainly a surprise!
Located only a few (5.5) miles from Baxley Municipal Airport, 1.5 miles from Baxley City limits (also a sister restaurant in Waycross).
I arrived at 2:30 on a very hot Friday afternoon. Being from Florida, near Crystal River, I was excited to see if the phone call to the hostess made any sense. I called prior to arriving and inquire as to fresh or frozen. I was told the restraint gets fresh seafood four (4) times each week. Get if we’ve got it fresh OR don’t get it! I get it AND like it!
So, I was greeted by the hostess and promptly seated and further greeted by the waitress who promptly returned with my requested fresh and crisp glass of water (filtered I’m sure). I ordered the “Combination TWO”. My choices were fried Fantailed Shrimp and fried oysters. The shrimp were good since, likely 31-40s (I like the light dusting of batter so I could taste the shrimp). The oysters on the other hand were very small (photos) by comparison to Florida’s Apalachicola oysters. Because of their small size, I believe they were a tad overcooked. I’m not sure how I would even cooked these without dumping a bowl of them into some chowder or Oyster stew. They just didn’t have the flavor or size to give them the oyster consistently I’m accustomed to at home. The Collard Greens were delightfully full of flavor, with bacon and just enough heat/spice to make my nasal passages run! The greens were the highlight of the meal NEXT to the trip to the soup bar. Today, my favorite is Clam Chowder. Both bowls were delicious! The salad bar was like all other salad bars EXCEPT every item in the bar was fresh and crisp. The Tuna Salad and Crab Salad was awesome! They were definitely made on site and NOT from the food vendor. Banana pudding was my go-to dessert although the fresh and crisp pineapple was a nice finish.

Was in Baxley for car service and came to Captain Joe’s for lunch. This place has always provided consistent service and great quality meals. The salad bar is unending. Fresh soup and chowder, cheese biscuits and fresh chips. Stuffed flounder and baked potato cooked to perfection. And the iced tea is so good. Brooke, our server made sure we were taken care of and had everything we needed. Very helpful service and amazing food. We will keep coming back.

Good service. They absolutely have some of the best iced tea around. For my meal, I had the grilled chicken and shrimp entree. It was hot and very tasty, along with the hot baked potatoes. Good meal overall, plus the salad bar was very fresh and good.

Family’s first time, well worth it we got 2 appetizers 3 kids meals( quality needs a little more) and 2 adult meals with the endless salad. About $100 definitely will returning and then hush puppies where amazing ….. the adult drinks came with a picher as well definitely a plus when we needed more….this place doesn’t get enough credit

Appetizer of fried mushrooms arrived after the entree was received and was so greasy and bland we could not eat it. The seafood was the same and over priced. The staff was rude and unprofessional. We had to remind our server of our drink order 20 mins after the order was taken. The salad bar was stale and not well maintained. This was around 6:00 pm on a Sunday night and here were approximately 6 tables of people dining in. Will not return.
