We tried a variety of things including the red beans & rice, vegan gumbo (oyster allergy), sweet potato fries, boudin croquettes, 2 kids meals (burger & chicken bites each with fries), bacon burger, and the bananas foster French toast. It was all hot and delicious, but my personal faves were the gumbo, red beans & rice, and the french toast. Nothing but praise for the food.
Stanley is easily located on a corner of Jackson Square, and there are no shortage of interesting things to see on the square as you eat. Service was also fantastic, but do note that if you in a party greater than 6 your table will be charged an automatic 20% gratuity. I had zero problems with that, as I hate seeing waitstaff stiffed. I did have a problem with the fact that when I went to pay the bill, it kept trying to have me add an additional tip (on top of the 20% it automatically added) to the total and would not allow me to change the amount (I tried multiple amounts and in a variety of ways, but it reverted to a default amount), so our server ended up with a $58 tip for $120 meal. (Don’t be like me and try to figure it out … call the waiter back over and patiently explain, “you are fabulous, but i’d rather not give you a tip that amounts to half of our meal.”) That issue aside (which would be enough to sour the whole experience for some, and was poorly done by Stanley- hence the lowering of a star), the food was fantastic. I’d go back again, but not with a party greater than 4.
Beautiful restaurant overlooks Jackson Square. The staff is exceptionally friendly.
