Had a 4 hour layover and was starving. My friend and I liked the cafeteria style where you could pick and choose what you wanted to try.
My beef vegetable soup was good, but the yellow rice and chicken were delicious! I had the fried plantains which hit the spot after the other food.
The portion sizes were very large in my opinion.
Would definitely eat here again!

Considering you are paying airport prices, I thought the food was pretty good and not ridiculously expensive. Plenty of beef, chicken and fish options. Good drink selection and sides were decent. Would recommend if you want to sit down and eat in D terminal. Will definitely return.

This review is just for the express portion . They had a delish cafe con leche and the price was great for the airport ! I also ordered their apple streusel and it was yummy ! Great morning start

Because we had a long layover we ended up back here for lunch . It’s a buffet / cafeteria style service . Fast and delish ! We got the ropa vieja and ordered an extra side of rice and split it between 2 people and we were super satisfied . The staff are super friendly

Update:
Though the ropa vieja had nice flavor and decent portion size, the pan con bistec is a waste of money and horrible. I should have asked for a refund and we threw most of the sandwich away in the trash. Very disappointing, considering I’ve left this restaurant 5 stars in the past and passed up all eateries in Miami to specifically eat here, I would not do it again.

The food is legitimately outstanding, and portion was very satisfying, just like ive lwft grandmothers house. The ropa vieja was a standout; the shredded beef practically melts and the tomato-based sauce has that slow-cooked, abuelita’s-kitchen depth of flavor you rarely find in an airport. Black beans and rice are spot-on, maduros are caramelized just right (never greasy).
Service is shockingly fast and warm for an airport environment. The staff moves like they’ve done this a million times (because they have), yet they still greet you with a genuine “mi amor” or “¿cómo estás?” that instantly makes you feel like you’re back in Miami proper. That kind of effortless hospitality is rare anywhere, let alone inside security.
Atmosphere-wise, it’s everything you want from a classic La Carreta: bright colors, photos of old Havana, Latin music at the perfect volume, and that iconic ventanita vibe even though you’re technically inside the terminal. It smells like café con leche and pork fat in the best possible way. There’s counter seating if you’re in a rush and plenty of tables if you have time to sit and people-watch.
Price is fair for an airport (entrees $14–$19, café con leche under $4), and the quality far exceeds what you’ll find at any chain spot in the terminal.
If you have even 30 minutes to spare in Concourse D, do yourself a favor and eat here. It’s not just “good for an airport.” It’s straight-up excellent Cuban food that stands toe-to-toe with the flagship on SW 8th Street. La Carreta remains undefeated.

This was probably the best food I have ever eaten in an airport! The restaurant is set up like a cafeteria, where you grab a tray and get what you want from the line. They had a lot of good looking options, and the ropa vieja we picked was absolutely delicious! If you’re hungry in the Miami airport, it is 100% worthwhile to make your way over to gate D37 and enjoy some excellent Cuban cuisine!

Love this place! One of the best airport dining experiences on the East Coast. Cafeteria with seating and a high level of service. Great Cuban leaning menu with lots of good veggie choices. Full bar. Staff is a friendly and fun.

La Carreta located at D37 gate
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Feels like home”

This place is magic. It makes me feel like I’m at home — at my grandparents’ home — even though they’ve already passed away. The people here are surreal; they remind me of how we South Americans used to be — warm, caring, and genuine.

There’s a guy who clears the tables and keeps an eye on everyone like an uncle “Julio” , and it almost brought me to tears. But that’s not even the best part…

The food is amazing — truly comforting, homemade flavors. This place deserves more than 5 stars! And the prices are really, really good. I’d much rather have this kind of grandma-style meal than any sandwich. So far, it’s the only place in the U.S. where I’ve happily paid the service fee, because they really do serve you with heart.

Thank you so much!

This is by far the best airport restaurant I have been to in the US. Price is reasonable. Service is amazing. Staff member Julio went above and beyond to make sure customers have a good dining experience – he is truly an asset and I hope his contributions are recognized and appreciated internally.

During my layover, I found this Cuban restaurant inside the airport and it turned out to be a great surprise. The location is perfect—right in the terminal, which makes it very convenient if you don’t want to wander too far from your gate. The service was quick and efficient, which is exactly what you need when you’re between flights. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, making it an ideal spot to spend some time while waiting for your flight. Overall, it’s a nice place to enjoy a break and soak in a bit of Cuban flavor before continuing your journey.

Way too touristy for me. The place is packed, and the servers clearly didn’t want to be there. I tried the Cuban sandwich since it’s the “must-have” item, but it was pretty bland. Surprisingly, the chicken and yellow rice was the highlight of the meal. Not worth the wait or the price tag in my opinion
