Charcoal-roasted chicken with Peruvian seasonings, yuca fries & more from a colorful counter serve.

I stopped into this place and had never eaten here before. It was on a Saturday around 1:00 p.m. I definitely had Alpaca in the back of my head as a Peruvian chicken restaurant to compare this to. The chicken at Mami’s was not quite as tasty, while the fries were pretty bad. They are more like potato wedges than french fries but after talking to the employees they aren’t salted at all. So you get these potato wedges which are very bland. I had to ask for salt. The coleslaw was strong and so too was the green sauce. It had a nice jalapeno kick and was even a little chunky. Overall, four stars for being not quite Alpaca quality and flavor but about the same price.

We’ve been to this place twice, and plan to make it one of our regular eateries. The food is great. It’s a simple menu and reasonably priced. They also dish it generous portions. We almost always take home leftovers. Vanessa, one of the manages there is always super accommodating. If you are in the mood for some delicious rotisserie chicken with good Peruvian side dishes, this placeil is a solid choice. We always go on late Saturday afternoons so we can’t speak to the atmosphere.

Such cute spot the chicken is spot on. Just we were waiting in the line hoping this will taste better than Costco rotisserie chicken and it sure does. Taste way better very flavorful very tender inside you can feel the fire roasted the chicken skin but kept all the juice.
God damn it was good.
The staff was really helpful. Besides the chicken I wanted try something else but don’t know what to choose the cashier helped me choose the fried rice. It’s very good too. Will come back

Very yummy! The biggest bummer is that they do not have the great sauces out like another local chain- they charge for any extra. The food is just as delicious as Alpaca but that was a bit of a bummer as someone who thinks the sauce makes the meal.

Mami’s Chicken is hands-down the best in Raleigh. The secret? Their incredible oven. Yesterday, I was granted special access to see it in action—and it did not disappoint. Watching the chicken spin as the juices dripped and the rich aroma of spices filled the air made it impossible not to order another one to take home.
That’s what sets Mami’s apart: even the next day, after reheating, the chicken stays juicy, tender, and full of flavor. The zesty sauce, perfectly cooked rice, and the best coleslaw I’ve ever had complete the experience. Mami’s isn’t just a meal—it’s a moment you’ll want to savor again and again.

The food was top notch, the chicken was juicy yet nicely smoked, the chaufa was flavorful and not greasy, yucca fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The building itself is a bit old but really charming, the air was filled with lots of delicious aroma. The price was comparable with other Peruvian chicken places, yet the value of what you get far exceeded the pricing.

All the 4+ stars are true. Extremely well done chicken. juicy, fresh, finger licking, all of it!
Pro:
– location and size
– parking
– food taste
– seating is extremely comfortable
– food prep very fast
Cons:
– no table service. You order on pads, you pick up, you clean yourself (zero issue, actually saves the business money)
– mood/hospitality (its about the food, not to make you happy. I get it)
– expensive ($50 for 2 kids and a toddler)
Overall I was eating with my hands. Very pleased with how well it was done. Will definitely return.

The food is phenomenal, the staff is really nice, the line and ordering food can be a bit confusing since they’ve had a bunch of different ways to do it. They don’t do the iPad terminals anymore. You go back up to the counter but the iPad terminal holders are still there which can be a bit confusing to some people. The atmosphere is fine, it’s just an older restaurant and it feels a little older. It needs a little bit of paint etc etc. but overall really good food, nice and friendly service.

This is honestly disgusting.
Walking into the bathroom and seeing something like this hanging from the ceiling says everything about how far this place has fallen. The bathroom was nasty, poorly maintained, and clearly ignored for a long time. If this is what customers can see, I don’t even want to imagine what the kitchen looks like.
This restaurant used to be good. Then it became average. Now it’s just plain crappy. The food has gone downhill in quality, presentation, and consistency. What used to feel like care and pride now feels like corner-cutting and indifference.
It’s obvious the owners have given up. There’s no attention to cleanliness, no sense of standards, and no effort to maintain even the basics. Expectations here have dropped so low that it feels like customers are an afterthought.
Extremely disappointing experience, and definitely not a place I’d recommend anymore.

A questionable looking place from the outside but the food was good. I had a quarter chicken with rice beans and plantains.
