We walked in last Saturday with a party of 5 no reservation (our bad) but they sat us almost immediately at the bar, which we loved! The bartender, Dylan, made us each some great cocktails and took our food orders carefully, as we had some allergies in the group, but he was very knowledgeable about the menu and helped us navigate. See photo for the absolutely diabolically delicious tacos. Also heard from my friend that the Mole was to die for. We ended the night with tequila shots and then were on our merry way after a fantastic start to the evening, thanks to La Dama. Anywho, we loved it and would highly recommend!! Thank you La Dama!!!
The guacamole was super fresh with radish and tomato for a little texture – simple, clean, and well-seasoned. The margs were solid too, not too sweet at all.
The real standout was the Salmon Encrustado… perfectly cooked, juicy, and paired with beet purée and hibiscus reduction that actually brought the whole dish together. Would 100% order again.
The Cochinita Pibil had a beautiful presentation, but flavor-wise, it just didn’t stand out. Not bad, just not memorable.
I appreciated how accommodating the kitchen was with my food allergies on the Cazuela de Repollitos y Hongos. The flavors were great – especially the pomegranate and chimichurri! the dish was a little too oily for my taste but tasty nonetheless-the-less.
We also tried the birria tacos, which were definitely tasty — super flavorful — but $21 for three tacos felt hard to justify, even in a higher-end setting.
Service was a highlight — our server was incredible: friendly, attentive, and even surprised my friend with a birthday dessert
Overall: La Dama delivers on experience! great staff, beautiful atmosphere, and solid food with a few standouts. On the pricier side, but worth checking out, especially if you go on a Tuesday.
Really creative food dishes that surprised and delighted us.
Pan roasted sea bass with green rancheros sauce and puréed creamed corn was delicious.
I love it when the food comes out so hot it burns your tongue. It’s not had because the kitchen is so close to the restaurant – it’s behind the bar.
Update: I couldn’t wait to come back. I returned and it’s just as good on the second visit. Staff even remembers you! This place delivers every time. Just exceptionally well prepared food. A clear cut above your standard fare elsewhere. I can’t recommend this place enough. Don’t think any longer. Just go. Any bad reviews sounds like the were ninny’s. This is my new favorite spot in Milwaukee.
Had a 6:00 reservation on a Saturday night. Got seated right away. We had a few choices, inside, outside or a little spot right at the end of the bar, which we took. Turned out to be a very good choice in seating.
The bartender was our server, and he did an incredible job the entire night. (Thanks Aton) And we got a great view of the work in the micro-kitchen on the other side. All the staff were super friendly, helpful and efficient.
We started with a couple of drinks, a Margarita and Old Fashioned. Each of them was a unique blend of ingredients with a seasoned salt along the rim. Also placed a order of their guacamole which was fresh, tastely and inventive. Who puts Pomegrate seeds in Guac! So unique and yummy!
We order a combination of Tacos, Grilled Shrimp, and Octopus. Each of them was fresh, hot, flavorful, and inventive (there’s that word again).
It’s a small place, with an even smaller kitchen. The entire staff was working hard to make and serve. You should plan according, and give yourself 1.5 hrs, so as to not feel rushed.
We will definately be back, and maybe save room for dessert. And maybe try the beautiful outdoor patio too.
