Failed at our Valentine’s dinner. We had a very disappointing experience here, especially for what’s advertised as a higher-end restaurant. We called around 5pm on Valentine’s Day and were placed on hold for nearly five minutes before being hung up on. After calling back and waiting about ten more minutes, we were finally able to place our order; only to receive another call saying their main advertised Valentine’s dessert was already sold out in 15 min (restaurant was half full at this point). It’s honestly baffling that a restaurant wouldn’t be prepared for their featured dessert on a major dinning holiday. To make matters worse, we were hung up on again later and they called back about 15 minutes for them to call back just to get my card information.

The food itself was even more disappointing. The lasagna looked promising but turned out to be layers of undercooked pasta and sauce, ending with a hard, barely cooked bottom layer; not al dente, simply not cooked. The classic fettuccine Alfredo tasted like plain buttered noodles, clearly missing the mark and the sauce-to-noodle ratio made it difficult to eat. We also later found out breadsticks aren’t included unless you specifically ask; yet they had no problem prompting 18%, 20%, or 25% tip options. Crazy!!

We still tipped our hostess (not the 18%!) because it was the right thing to do as of this was mostly not her fault, and I voiced our concerns, but there was zero follow-up from a manager or any attempt to make things right. For a restaurant positioned as upscale, this was a complete failure and not somewhere I would recommend to anyone!!

Overall good experience. Was recommended to us by a friend. Calamari and Edamame were great. Everyone in our family who ordered Italian loved their dishes; especially the lasagna. I ordered the New York Strip Medium rare and it came out Medium Well to Well done causing it to lack flavor. Definitely would go back but would stick to the Italian dishes.

This was our first time dining here. The gal that greeted us acted annoyed that we didn’t make a reservation for two. The tables are so close together that it was uncomfortable trying to get to my chair. I’m not a large person. I had the choice of wedging between another person’s chair & the table or having tree leaves in my face as I did so on the other side. Even the waitress commented on the spacing when she tried to get through. There was a long wait for our food. The place seemed understaffed. The beer batter soup tasted like gravy. The hamburger was overcooked & luke warm. The fries had good flavor but were all one inch long or shorter & looked like the crumbs from the bottom of the bag. The restaurant was very loud in general regarding the surrounding conversations & music. We were hoping for & expecting so much more.

We’ve eaten here two weeks in a row, and we LOVE this adorable place at the Inn! The food is so good, by the time I thought to take a photo for the review, we’d already eaten everything. Spectacular service, fantastic food, and amazing ambiance! This restaurant is a MUST if you’re in Okoboji. We’ve especially enjoyed their breakfast and lunch dishes.

I’m a year rounder and this place by far has the best food in Okoboji. Walleye, steak lasagna, and even the salads are all top notch.

6:15 reservation, took over 30 minutes for soda to be delivered to the table. Ordered appetizers, calamari was lukewarm at best. Salads came, lettuce was old, asked for bread it was served to one end of the table on 2 tables together with a minimal amount of oil on one end. Once food was delivered, the chicken parmesan was cold as was the accompanying spaghetti. The entire time Martin, our server, made every request feel like a HUGE imposition, and he was not knowledgeable about the menu. Kazarelli’s took a family birthday meal and made it feel awful.

Love Kazarelli’s!! Our family goes every year as one of our traditions when we come to Okoboji. This was our first visit after they moved locations to the Inn. The food is 10/10. This time I got the New York Strip and the flavor was fantastic. Honestly, one of the best steaks I have had.

The reason I am rating it a 4/5 is the service and the patio. The service is slower moving, and more often than not, there are oversights. For example, ordering a drink, then not getting it, etc. If you come with expectations on the slowness and accept it as part of the charm, then you will enjoy it.

Last thing is the back-covered patio. Although beautiful, there are functional issues with its set up that made the experience unpleasant at times. For example, the covered part didn’t have any fans and is also closed off to the breeze, which increases the temperature and the number of bugs pestering you. There is an open cut-out where the smoker is, which the sun pours into, and whoever is sitting there is cooking. A simple shade could be installed to mitigate it easily.

An open letter to Okoboji, my family has been spending our summers on the lake since 1953. We’ve owned our home here since 1971, we loved Kazarelli’s when it was across the lake in Millers Bay. We were so excited to hear that they had found a new home at the new New Inn. I would say overall our experience was good. Having reservations at 6 today pm and being there for 2 hours was a bit long. I know they are still working out the kinks of opening in a new place and we will definitely be going back. However the head chef and kitchen staff need some more time together to be more in sync. Two out of the 4 fish entrees were served raw and when our waitress told the cooks they sent her back to do their dirty work by telling us that that’s the way it’s supposed to be. Sorry but I have a brother who’s a professional chef in Maui and he cooks Ono all the time, or as they call it at Kazarelli’s Wahoo fish. The kids pepperoni pizza didn’t have pepperoni on it at all. It had salami with big pieces of pepper. Most kids I know don’t like big pieces of pepper or the fact that their pepperoni pizza doesn’t have pepperoni on it. So yes there are some kinks especially for an almost 400 dollar bill for 5 people. But we will be back because they are worth a second try when they get their groove going it will be great!!

I called for reservation and it cost me $10 per person to reserve a table for eight. Total charges were a little over $85 with sales tax. About an hour or so before, one couple was unable to be there due to illness. I called the restaurant immediately and told them this. When we arrived they had a table for six set up. When we went to pay our bill I was still charged for eight people, even though I had called an hour before about the change. Instead of simply clearing the $85 charge they provided us with a bill that showed all kinds of weird discounts against the food order that we had. It was very difficult to understand. I spoke with our waiter, who said he would contact the owner and get things cleared up. When she appeared, she said that we still had to pay for the two people who did not show up even though we had called ahead of time. What was equally insulting was the fact that the restaurant was half full? It was not like there was any pressure for tables that night. Our food was mediocre at best. I would not recommend this restaurant.

Kazarelli’s has been a beloved staple for our family in the lakes area for over 15 years. We were so disappointed when we heard they were closing, but thrilled to learn they were reopening in The Inn Hotel!

We visited on their opening weekend and had a fantastic experience. The food was just as amazing as always—can’t go wrong with the lasagna! The new space is beautiful and perfectly located in the heart of Arnold’s Park. It was wonderful to see familiar faces and enjoy the warm, welcoming atmosphere again.

If you’re planning to visit with a large group, I’d recommend calling ahead for a reservation since seating for big parties is limited. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!
