The cuisine was delectable and appetizing. We opted for to try out the puffy tacos, which were well-prepared although oily. I would highly recommend returning for a special occasion, ensuring that the establishment offers ample space and comfort.
The service was commendable, although we experienced a slight delay in being approached by a staff member for seating. Nevertheless, our server was courteous and prompt in addressing our needs.
*The menu is vas and eclectic. It ranges from interior Mexico to Tex-Mex cuisine.
*Portions are ample.
*Food is always fresh..
*Iced tea is always fresh.
* Chips & salsa served complementary before meal arrives
SERVICE:
*Histes sat us within 3 minutes, as restarunt was brisk but not swamped
*Waiter was knowledgeable about the menu
*Waiter took our order promptly
*Waiter kept or tea glasses full
*Waiter removed dishes as we set them aside
ATMOSPHERE:
*The patio is gorgeous, shadded and lots foliage
*Being fairly cool, we chose to sit indoors. The do have temporary gazebos and outdoor heaters set up for those wishing to sit on the patio in brisk nights
*The inside like a huge Spanish casa with large stylish widows, nice seating (both tables and booths), and a small full bar with a big screen tv
TIPS:
*Ask for your crispy taco on a separate plate to avoid having it get soggy.
*On Fridays and Saturdays there can be a little wait to be seated, but not usually too long
There are numerous Mexican restarunts in San Antonio, and La Hacinda de Los Barrios always hits the spot. If you’ve never been, check it out.
Mexica Food that never disappoints !9
The food options were preset, so every guest was served beef enchiladas with rice and beans, and a choice of a crispy taco or not with tortillas and condiments.
For me, the food was very salty, and I checked with some of the other attending guests and they felt the same about the saltiness. If you’re a beer drinker, just know they only have bottled beer, and do have a pretty good selection.
The staff service was OK, but at times it seems difficult to find the server. I will note the place was very busy and very loud.
Additionally, they have an outside area, it is decked, and a bar area to support the outside seating. There is also a small playground for children to play. Just remember, there is NO staff responsible for watching YOUR children so be mindful and vigilant.
Overall, we had a good time, it was just a little loud inside for my preferences. The group of 50+ that we had was placed in another section of the restaurant, not a separate room. So, I am unaware if there is a separate group room and how many people it may hold.
As for parking, there is parking in front of the restaurant, and if you take the road along the side of the restaurant, there is parking behind it. I have never been to this restaurant when the parking spaces have been all exhausted.
Enjoy yourselves should you decide to good.
On the negative side the quality of food has gone downhill since we started coming here years ago.
The crispy tacos served on pre folded cold corn tortillas with a filling not ground beef but a paste with the consistency of dog food.
My wife knows her cabrito dish very well & the meat was definitely not cabrito. After complaining, supervisor brought her a small piece of real cabrito. Disappointing experience especially since this dish is pricey.
I started with a sweet tea, which had an unusual taste, so I asked nicely if I could switch to a Coke.
We ordered the guacamole salad with chips, but the guacamole was plain mashed avocados with no seasoning or salt. Not what I would call guac or guacamole salad. I just added salt and pepper from the table and ate most of it. For our entrees, my husband ordered fajitas, and I tried the enchilada assortment with five different kinds to explore the menu. Unfortunately, none of the dishes stood out positively. Some of the tortillas tasted raw, and the enchiladas had a strange flavor reminiscent of perfumed candies from a grandmas purse (IYKYK). My husband also wasn’t impressed with his fajitas.
Additionally, while placing our order I also ordered flautas to take home to my daughter, but when we got home, she found a hair, and immediately tossed them.
The service also seemed a bit subdued, as our waiter didn’t seem particularly excited to be there.
Their Mexican dishes never disappoint, and everything comes out fresh and well-seasoned. The service has always been friendly and attentive without feeling rushed, which really adds to the overall experience.
It’s one of those restaurants I keep coming back to because it just feels familiar and dependable. Great food, good service, and a cozy vibe—definitely a solid go-to spot in San Antonio.
La Hacienda De Los Barrios in San Antonio is a true gem for families looking for a great dining experience. The highlight of this establishment is its spacious patio, perfectly accommodating not just humans, but also our furry friends with wagging tails. The delightful playground for kids ensures that little ones are kept entertained and happy throughout the visit.
The service at La Hacienda De Los Barrios is commendable, with orders being served promptly and efficiently. The best part is that the wait time is never too long, allowing families to enjoy their meal without any unnecessary delays.
We tried the creamy poblano enchiladas, which undoubtedly stole the show with their delicious flavor and perfect creamy texture. These enchiladas deserve the title of “best in show.” On the other hand, the beef steak ranchero was a bit underwhelming considering the price, landing it in the “mid” category in our books. Don’t forget the Sopapillas for desert. They’re amazing.
Despite this minor setback, the overall experience at La Hacienda De Los Barrios deserves a solid 5 stars. The exceptional service, charming ambiance, and the delightful patio and playground make it a go-to spot for families looking to enjoy a meal together. We highly recommend this restaurant for a memorable and enjoyable dining experience.
