I’m honestly not even sure what to say about this place. We were craving Chinese food and this was one of the only places open at the time. Service was just weird. Not exactly bad, but seemed very untrained and weren’t sure what to do. People who came after us got food before we did. Everything was very disorganized. One of the waiters spoke neither English nor any Chinese dialect, which is fine as it is Portugal after all (and we can do that), but it was strange for an obviously touristic “Asian” restaurant where you expect many customers may not be Portuguese.

The esplanade is large, breezy, and comfortable. Indoors was empty. They served the coke warm with one ice cube. It made it unpleasant and not refreshing at all.

They claimed not to have 2 of the dishes I had wanted. I suspect that they just didn’t feel like making them at that time as it was before their mid-afternoon break. The fried tofu was just plain weird. It was really sweet, like they just put sweet and sour sauce on some fried tofu. The kung pao was the worst I’ve ever had at any proper Chinese restaurant. Wrong colour and totally wrong flavour. Very sweet! The spicy noodles were okay. It was decent taste, and the noodles themselves were a good texture and nicely made, but the dish was incredibly oily for no reason. It was a perfect sized portion for me.

Prices are way too high for the quality of service and poorly-made Chinese cuisine. Now that there are so many other Chinese noodle places around the area, there isn’t really any reason to come back. Leave it to the tourists and big families.

Food was pretty delicious and well served. Restaurant is also very big so you will definitely feel comfortable. However, service wasn’t that nice. We booked a table for four but one person couldn’t make it. When we told that to the man who welcomed us in our table he had a kind of angry expression on his face. The other employees who talked to us were friendly though. When it comes to price, we paid 50 euros each so it was a bit expensive. Therefore, not a place to go often, at least not for me.

The food was v good. We’ve been missing a decent Chinese food since London and the old house finally hit the mark. The szechuan dishes tasted as they should. The black fungus (called algae here) salad was crunchy and tasty. The szechuan lamb was nice but not saucy. Pecking duck was decent and came with an entertaining dry ice presentation.

This is our second visit to this restaurant, and we absolutely love the food. As fans of spicy cuisine, the Sichuan food is perfect for us. While the prices are a bit on the higher side, the delicious food and excellent service make it well worth it. Also, they have the best caipirinha!

In 2026 you still have this kind of behaviour..looking for the watch when someone go inside your restaurant..shame on you. I asked to sit on the first floor and the waiter said it’s closed during the week.. liar.. then I said I will sit there and see if nobody goes up.. and suddenly he changed the speech.. no it’s only for private groups.. woowww it’s not the first time I eat there .. you should just keep your mouth shut instead of trying to fool people..

Nice Chinese on the expensive side but the servings are large. Service was ok but the use of the back door to come in and out with dirty dishes is not a good atmosphere.

Visited again expecting a good meal. Sadly the meal was very mediocre, most plates were off and we returned the tofu simply not eatable for us.
Sadly will not be back

I had a wonderful dining experience at the Old house restaurant. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. I particularly enjoyed their amazing grilled spicy fish, beef in chili oil, and many other dishes. The fish was perfectly seasoned and tasted fabulous. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal in Lisbon.

I had lunch in The Old House with some friends and we had a very good experience. The space is pleasant (we sat outdoors) and the staff is ok. The menu is very rich (almost overwhelming) in options. We ordered shrimp dumplings, the old house rolls, roasted black pork, spicy noodles, Beijing roast duck and shredded pork and we ended up very satisfied. The Beijing roast duck and the shredded pork deserve a special recognition and they are a must try. For the dessert we ordered the honey sweets, which were ok but not incredible. The price is fair to the quality presented. In sum, it is a great option if you want to try an authentic Chinese gastronomic experience, as it stands out comparing to the traditional Chinese restaurants that can be found in Portugal.
