In Kansas City its no secret that BBQ is more than just a fad or passing craze. KC and BBQ are just synonymous, you can’t mention one without the other. So, why KC and why Rosedale? First, as mentioned above BBQ is a cornerstone of KC and Rosedale is one of the originals, starting on July 4, 1934. It’s an institution, rich with history and traditions. Its more than just the smoke and the meat, although that plays a large role. It’s the tried and true recipes and methods, it’s smoking low and slow, it’s quality product at competitive prices. And indulging in the menu well, it’s an experience. Beef, Pork, Chicken and more, we have been smoking for the carnivore since ’34. We can’t wait to meat you. Until then, stay Bone-A-Fide!

Never had this place before.
So I finally tried it. Came in for lunch. Where the food should be ” freshly made ”
Ordered dynamic Duo.
I figured because, two of my favorites is burnt ends and sausage
And side of BBQ beans.
Burt ends was meh. Sausage was meh. BBQ beans is another thing I judge places on. It was meh..
Beans was like warm.
The Burt ends was thick, but wasn’t the worst. The sausage reminds me of yesterday meat
Not sure what fries I had?
They was union or pickles?
I dunno but they was great.
For the price was meh.
They have no fountain soda.
Just 12ox bottles. But free cup and best ice.
BBQ place that don’t put any pickles on your combo plate is crazy to me! But it’s whatever.
Out of all the BBQ I had. 2.5 out of 5. It was just . Meh.
Also, wasn’t hip on the sauce?
Was weird but iv had worse.
I had the deluxe combo:
*1/2 rack of ribs – 5/10
Cooked to perfection, ZERO flavor!
*Brisket – 1/10
Very dry and again, no flavor
*Burnt ends -2/10
There was nothing burnt about them. There was no glazing, they were tender as heck… not what burnt ends should be. They should have caramelized, almost crispy edges and bold flavor. There was absolutely no flavor.
*an order of the smoke sausage – 8/10
Loved this, but it’s a very small portion and it was almost over cooked which caused it to shrink quite a bit.
*I tried the potato dish – 10/10
Easily the best item I ate. It’s delicious. It’s greasy and cheesy and has some notable flavoring.
*baked beans – 4/10
Very average. Not a lot of flavor. I would rather have Bush’s from a can.
My guest ordered the following:
Deluxe combo
* Ribs
*pulled chicken 2/10
Very dry and honestly could not tell the difference between the pork and chicken because they were both bland.
*pulled pork 2/10
No flavor and Very dry
*Mac n Cheese – 8.5/10
Very cheesy, cooked well, not overcooked and mushy. One of my favorite items.
*potato salad – 4/10
Pretty run of the mill. I would bet they get this shipped in and it comes from a factory pre-made.
We were served bread woth our meals. Yet , apparently, they have absolutely NO BUTTER in the entire restaurant. So I ate my dry bread with my dry meats. I tried the BBQ sauce on different meats and again, just was not impressed. Again, I wonder if that is pre-made. Doesn’t taste home made.
My brother who is a KC resident said this experience wasnt typical and maybe it’s because we came after lunch. While I understand COGS wholly, I cannot pacify dry, flavor lacking meats. Im sorry to say KC, but you lose, hands down. St. Louis BBQ is better. Thank you for the hospitality, though. We will try another BBQ restaurant next time. Best of luck.
The order came quickly and we had plenty of food. We both thought the ham was delicious – even though we only got two slices total, but I didn’t care for the beef as much as I had hoped. While it was tender, and there was a good sized portion, it just didn’t have much flavor. The beans and coleslaw were both very good, better than most bbq restaurants. The sauce was good, not great, and my wife said the same thing about the onion rings.
Overall I think we had a good experience, and got a good value for our money. We just weren’t as thrilled with the meal as we were hoping to be.
Rosedale Bar-B-Q is off the beaten path not far from KU Medical Center.
This quaint eatery is the real deal from the sultry smoke smell of meat to the old school atmosphere.
Service was fast fast… barely got sat down. Portions were hefty.
Unlike some previous comments … the meat was moist and tender. Sauce was sweet and spicy. Cole Slaw was creamy and sweeter. I got cheesy potatoes in lieu of fries. Just like Grandma’s.
You can tell they are true to the founder’s recipes because of their efficient system of preparation to flavor.
