As we were staying at the Hotel Principal and this restaurant is part of it, we decided to leave the car parked and have Chinese food for dinner. We ordered selection #5 for two people. It came with 4 small spring rolls, fried wonton, breaded chicken with lemon sauce, battered shrimp, General Tao chicken, wonton soup, mixed vegetables. There was plenty for two people and thankfully our room has a fridge and a microwave so we could enjoy the leftovers the next day. The food was your typical Chinese food taste. The General Tao chicken was not spicy as I’m accustomed to. The spring rolls had a ginger plum sauce. The shrimp came with a somewhat Thai sauce. The chicken for the lemon chicken seemed to be two breasts battered and cut into manageable pieces. It’s what I call “safe” food to simply enjoy and fill the tummies. The cost before taxes for the meal for two was $40.00 so quite economical. We only had water so no further to add to the tab. Food was quickly served and service was attentive. It’s a homey decor place with tables and booths. For the price and selection of food, it’s good as a meal.

Take out was simply not good
General Tao chicken like inedible rubber
Undercooked vegetables. Ribs to hard to chew. Soggy tasteless bean sprouts and veg. The only thing that was edible for me were the egg-rolls. The young guy at the cash was so nice.

What a waste of $80. The ambiance is awful, with no music. If you like stale food served for dinner, be my guest, but I found the dishes bland and old-tasting. The General Tao’s were mostly batter with barely any meat inside rice stale and hard…chop suey had no taste. Never again—avoid this place if you can.

I personally love the food and enjoy visiting frequently. Its usually a quiet atmosphere (in the dinning section anyways).. The owner is very friendly, too nice for someone who does as much as he does. He takes the orders “in house” , online, on the phone.. He catters to the customers every need, keeps the Restaurant&KITCHEN spotless (Yes, i’m lucky i got to see backstage .. Its IMPECCABLE!) lol He is there everyday from opening time until closing time, he has part time workers only.. This guy is also the cook! I don’t know about you but i can definately admit that i couldnt tough it out, ive tried working in restaurants(Not this one) But the pressure gets to me, the fast pace is fine but the (customers)!, getting all sorts of rude behavior&Even Death-Threats for forgetting to put utensils in a bag, Hungry people are no joke! He gives great service and almost~single~handedly manages a whole Restaurant on his own, oh i forgot he also delivers from time to time when he has no delivery~guy.. I could go on and on because when i talked to him i was amazed by how hard~working and generous this man is.. I wanted to properly give him a shout~out and say i have the OUTMOST respect for this man. OH, in case it wasnt clear, i definately recommend this place!!

Ordering on DoorDash is a terrible idea. 2nd time we’ve been disappointed, and the last time.no lemon sauce with the lemon chicken and no pineapple sauce with the pineapple chicken. 3 containers of cherry ‍♀️
The General Tao wasn’t very good either. Terrible experience.

Rented a room at the Hotel Le Principal (Granby), where this restaurant is attached. Considering we’d get a 10% discount (as hotel guests) and the restaurant is right there in the hotel lobby (proximity), we thought we’d try it out.

The service was SO freaking slow. Considering there were like only one or two other guests, this should not be. Once we got the waitresses attention, we ordered from the daily specials, which comes with a soup. Waitress was gone without even asking us which soup we wanted/preferred? Or if we wanted something to drink. Really odd. Luckily for us, we wanted Won Ton, which is what she brought.

I had General Tao, which was decent. Not great, but not bad either. My girlfriend and the kids got some chicken/beef plate (forgot the name). Their plate was also ok (taste) I guess, but it was obvious the chicken was cooked from frozen food.

For desert, we wanted to try the fried banana, which turned out into a waiting adventure. After about 15 minutes, we saw some Chinese guy leave and come back to the restaurant with a few bananas in his hands. So we told the waitress we didn’t want to wait and cancel the banana order. She assured us those were NOT our bananas and that our order was “cooking” and ready in 2 minutes. We finally got the friend bananas with ice cream about 10 minutes later. Was ok, I guess.

The waitress came back with the credit card machine. Told us the price and wanted us to pay. But… where’s the bill? Oh, the machine takes too long to print it out. Just pay and I’ll bring it to you later. What? This sounds backwards, no? But anyway, we just wanted to get out of there, so I paid and tallied things up in my head afterwards.

I confronted the waitress and asked her why we didn’t get our 10% discount as hotel guests? She said, she did add it but sometimes it doesn’t show up. Whatever that meant? So after some number crunching, she finally gave me back some $5 and change, to “correct” for the missing discount.

Unless you are in a real bind and tight for time, I wouldn’t recommend. There are plenty of restaurants 10 minute walk in every direction. Some actually look really good and tasty.

Food & service were good. A bit disappointed that the dessert in the Table d’Hote only consisted of a fortune cookie.

We went again this year. The same holds true. The food was delicious. The fortune cookie didn’t even contain a fortune this time.

Update July 2024>>> something changed, food is terrible, no longer pick up from there when in Granby. For old time locals I really miss the old KungFu (even Maison Chinois)

Original Review: Great simple North American style Chinese restaurant. We have done take out from this restaurant multiple times since COVID and portion size is always generous and food is fresh ( not precooked and held in warmer). Definitely would recommend if you have a craving for Chinese in Granby. ( my only comment is it would be great if they offered old style egg rolls open ended vs imperial rolls, it would complete the classic/old school meal)

Food is decent but service was extremely slow. Only one waitress due to another one being on vacation. Not acceptable for a restaurant. The waitress although overworked maintained a professional and pleasant demeanor. Shame on management!
