I love the concept here. I’ve seen something like this in Wisconsin. It’s a nice experience. You cook your own steak and/or any other protein you want. In the pictures I’ve enclosed is the 28 oz Sirloin. Tortilla Soup (unfortunately it wasn’t hot-heat enough)….The Pretzel appetizer with the 2 different cheese was good…However there wasn’t enough pretzels for the dipping sauce. I’m not giving you an excuse not to go, I am just giving you my take on what I experience. I leave reviews all over the place. The Service was slighly slow and we went at 4:30 pm when it wasn’t even busy. Either way, I will be back sometime.
It also was an extra special day because it was my nephew’s 24th Birthday.

Tried Black Rock and sampled a variety of items; Volcano Shrimp and the 3-Waz soup combo (French Onion, Lobster Bisque, and New England Clam Chowder).
The Volcano Shrimp was delicious with just the right amount of spice. French Onion soup was solid and flavorful. The Lobster Bisque was rich and tasty, and the Clam Chowder had good flavor but surprisingly no clams in it. Biggest downside aside from the French Onion, the other soups came out barely warm.
That said, everything was still delicious overall, and I’d come back for the shrimp and bisque especially.

My son, who is studying to be a dermatologist, was home from medical school for a few days and decided to bring me to this restaurant for dinner. It was both of our first time at this restaurant. I was super impressed with the entire experience. First of all, it almost felt like I was out of town because of the ambiance and the whole restaurant’s vibe. The lighting is soft with perfectly dimmer lights that give off a relaxing sorta feel. Our waitress was so personable and was so friendly, she felt more like a family member than a staff person, and I mean in a good way. She helped us with ordering and even demonstrated how to cook the food on the black rock. It literally does cook on a black rock. She smiled and checked on us often, making sure my son and I, as well as one of my grandchildren, whom I took with us, were all enjoying our food. This waitress treated us like we were her only guest, and I’m sure she had other tables to wait on, but we were definitely tended to. The food was absolutely divine! Even before we ordered, my son and I were trying to decide what appetizers to get. We chose three, because they seemed so appealing. I must say, we chose right, because those appetizers had me smiling the entire time we were in the restaurant. There’s this dip with pita chips, it’s so good, it will make you want to order one to go. And they have some zesty chicken bites that are scrumptious. The steak and ribs is what I ordered and I made a great choice because the meat was delicious. It tasted like it might have been marinated in some sort because it was delicious. I couldn’t eat all my food so I took home my leftovers and ate them that night while watching a movie on tv. I told our waitress before leaving, “I will be back.” I also told her that I want her to be my waitress when I return. I give that place five great stars because they truly earned all of them. If I could give them six stars I would. I highly recommend Black Rock… I hope their quality never changes… Oh, and by the way, my granddaughter liked our waitress so much, that the waitress carried her to the register with her to show her around the place. It was such a great experience.

5 of us went in for a late lunch and unfortunately I think we were forgotten about. Our waiter was friendly when he was there but never came back once he dropped off out main dishes. We had to ask more that once for water and coffee. I love Black Rock, I love cooking my own steak and I’m so sad the Canton location closed but not sure I’ll go back to Novi 🙁

Ok…… where do I start….. The waiter Francis…… he is one of one…. I literally felt like we were at my home just having casual conversation while drinking wine…. while the chef prepare our meal…. I take my client Donna to many fancy restaurants she’s like another mother to me… we order spinach dip EVERYWHERE WE GO IF THEY HAVE IT…. This spinach dip is top tier just like his service…. The manager… JOHN!!! He was very welcoming, showed me to my seat where Donna was sitting, directed me to bathroom and we even cracked some friendly jokes… to top it all off before lunch arrived I met the CHEF!!! “Nish” she was very pleasant and professional…. We will definitely add Black Rock Grill to our weekly ladies luncheon’s….

The experience started off bad and did not get any better. The 1st table we were sat at as a family of four with 2 young children under 4 was so small and tight (high top/booth). The table was full from just the water cups, napkin squares, table sign, menus, and silverware. The server began to bring out food and after sitting an appetizer on the table, she offered us to move because the table was literally full and there was no way we could safely have dinner.
We head to the back of the restaurant and my son has to go to the restroom. These were atrocious and filthy. There is no way the men’s restroom was cleaned well in the last day or so. It really felt like a rural gas station bathroom that you only use because of the need, was placed inside of this “nice” steakhouse. There were splatter marks on the toilet, urinals, and the floor was kind of sticky with grime. I considered leaving there for the adjacent restaurant just so my son and I could use the restroom. He had to go and it was so gross I instructed him not to touch anything and asked my wife to take him to the ladies room instead while I wait with our daughter at the table.
Honestly, we only stayed because it was my wife’s birthday, we had been given gift cards to use, and my son was excited to cook his own food.
Once we were moved to more of an accommodating table we ate our food, which was fine because we cooked the steak on the stone. There was a left out mop bucket across from our table. Whenever the stone was not smoking we could smell the mop water and having it in view didn’t help. It’s like come on, the waiter walked past it multiple times and it’s bright yellow by the door where staff is coming in and out of the kitchen area.
Overall, underwhelming, less than exceptional, and not impressed. If the unique experience is cooking your own steak then the rest of the dining experience should be exemplary. I would have been better off going to a different establishment that ensures a great time and makes you feel welcomed, valued, and excited to return. I was happy to see the birthday volcano, check delivered, and the exit with keys in hand.

We love the steak on the rock dish but it seems the menu has changed quite a bit since the last time we’ve been there but the steak was still delicious. The service we received wasn’t that great, seems like our waitress wasn’t having a good day. I would have given 3 star rating; but the manager came by which helped improved the service a bit.

THIS RESTAURANT AND STAFF IS AMAZING!!! I proposed to my now finance at BR Novi yesterday and the staff showed extreme effort to ensure that this special day went seamless as possible.
John, the manager, has been communicating with for about a month to stay updated on details and any changes being made to the reservation. His staff was able to accommodate a party of FIFTY, 50!!! And made it look easy.
We were serviced by Morgan, Francis, and Cj, and they were outstanding. They gave us their undivided attention and provided diligent service and handled the chats with professionalism and care. Thankyou to BR NOVI for making sure that our day was special as possible! SEE YOU GUYS SOON
