We came here last week for a drink as it was one of the last nice days left in the year. We had a nice outside view and also had a table to chill inside. I did enjoy their queso dip, a great snacking food.

4/5: Rooftop view, ceviche win, but still no toilet seat covers

Our unplanned visit to Tope on 7/23/2025 was a pleasant surprise after wandering around downtown. Located inside The Hoxton Hotel on the corner of 4th and Burnside, right next to the Dragon Gate entrance to Old Town, this was the only place open at 4 PM, and it worked out well for us.

Our party of three was seated on the rooftop patio, where we caught a clear view of Mt. Hood in the distance and the Broadway Bridge to our left. About one-third of the rooftop had shade from the building between 4–6 PM. The space also has plenty of indoor lounge seating, and only the rooftop and part of the indoor dining have those views.

We ordered the only two mocktails on the menu at $9 each and found them well balanced and enjoyable. Our friend got the La Bodega ($18), but we forgot to follow up on her opinion. I ordered the Rockfish Ceviche ($21), which was generously lime-marinated, to the point that I didn’t need the extra lime wedges I asked for. That almost never happens. I’d gladly get it again.

A new line on our receipt caught our attention: “3 Kitchen Appreciation, $1.50.” We asked our server, who explained it is automatically added to support kitchen staff when food is ordered. We didn’t confirm whether it’s per person or per dish, but the charge was $1.50 total for the three of us.

Restroom note: Located at the rooftop lounge level are three gender-neutral, single-stall restrooms. Functional, yes, but no toilet seat covers, which loses them a star.

The hotel itself has a well-air-conditioned lobby and plenty of relaxed seating at street level if you’re waiting for a table or need a cool down before heading up.

The rooftop patio was filling quickly while we were there. Views, casual vibes, and thoughtful service made this visit worthwhile. We’ll likely be back for ceviche and rooftop when we’re in the area again.

From the moment we stepped onto the rooftop, the vibe was immaculate—stunning views, great music, and the perfect atmosphere for a night out. The drinks were expertly crafted and the food was fresh and flavorful, but what truly made the night unforgettable was our server, Shelby.

Shelby was phenomenal—attentive without being overbearing, incredibly friendly, and clearly passionate about providing top-tier service. She anticipated our needs before we even had to ask and made fantastic recommendations that we loved. It’s rare to find service this genuine and polished.

If you’re looking for the perfect rooftop spot with outstanding hospitality, this is it. We’ll absolutely be back, and we’ll be asking for Shelby every time! ✨

Great tasting food and served fast. Views were incredible and there were so many cool seating options, from the outside terrace to views of the streets below, bar seating, and fire place seating. Would like to visit again!

Oh man. What a gem. We came here for a happy hour and I ordered food as well and will totally be coming back.

Ok, so rooftop bar – they aren’t coasting on that. The chips and salsa are awesome – the salsa was the best I’ve tasted in some time. The queso was great as well. I could probably live off these the rest of my life and be stoked the entire time.

Got the smoked Tacos at the top of the menu. Man, I was shocked when I had my first bite. It was perfect. You gotta get them.

The staff were wonderful as well – they had just sat a party of 25!!!!!! With no reservations and we had a party of 7 and they were so nice and awesome.

What a rad place.

The food was good, the drinks were great, but the service was a complete and utter miss. No one was rude or malicious in any way so I’m giving this place a positive review overall. it just seemed like absolutely no one in the restaurant knew what food or drinks were going to what table. My guess is that we were sat at the wrong table by the host?

I’d definitely give this place another try, particularly during nicer weather since they’re on the rooftop, but would advise going in with low expectations regarding service.

Wow! We came here for the superbowl halftime party downstairs and were pleasantly surprised with the vibe upstairs! Shelby made a killer Negroni and was really sweet and hilarious. Thank you!!

Even though it was a grey rainy day, this place felt warm, light and cozy. The staff were very friendly. Chips and guacamole are fresh, good but on the mild side. Ask for a little kick. The chicken Tinga tacos were my favorite of what I ordered. However the absolute best thing was the Mangonada Sorbet. Probably gonna have one every day during my trip here.

Tope’s ambiance is effortlessly cool—warm lighting, fun pops of color, and an open-air rooftop that makes you feel like you’ve escaped to a mini vacation. Whether you’re lounging inside or out, the space is designed for both casual hangs and celebratory nights out.

The Ceviche was just okay—the halved shrimp didn’t feel as fresh as I’d hoped, and the flavors didn’t quite stand out. However, the tacos and cocktails were a highlight! The glazed pork belly taco had the perfect balance of crispiness and sweetness, while the braised beef taco was packed with tender, well-marinated pulled beef.

I appreciate that they provide blankets for outdoor dining, which adds a cozy touch. However, the food is definitely on the pricier side—you’re paying more for the ambiance than the meal itself.

We went on a bit of a whim for a late night dinner, and we loved it! Our bartender Jackie was so sweet and very attentive. We had the chips & guac, chicken tacos, and vegetarian tacos and all were great. It was also awesome to see Portland illuminated at night from such a unique perspective. We’ll definitely be back!
