We stopped by the River House for lunch. The place has nice decorations, indoor and outdoor seating. It was a rainy, winter day, but even then it was a nice view. There’s hundreds of seats – like, really. We had a few appetizers (stuffed lobster was the best) and different dishes for our main course. It took way too long for the food to come out, despite the restaurant being at ~30-40% capacity. The NY strip steak came out very raw, but they changed it promptly. Problem was that even when it came out right, the steak quality didn’t justify the price. Still a nice place to go – maybe just getting a different main course.

Birthday Dinner at the River House ✨
I celebrated my birthday at River House Restaurant & Raw Bar, and it was such a beautiful experience.
To start the evening, I ordered a Whiskey Sour made with egg white and bitters, and it was perfectly balanced—smooth, refreshing, and crafted just right.
For appetizers, we had the jumbo lump crab and the spinach artichoke dip, and both were absolutely delicious. The crab was fresh and flavorful, and the dip was creamy with just the right amount of seasoning.
The atmosphere along the river made the night feel even more special, and the service was warm and attentive. It was a wonderful place to celebrate a birthday and just enjoy good food and good energy.
If you’re looking for a spot in Louisville for a special occasion, date night, or celebration dinner, this is definitely a place worth visiting.
Thank you for helping make my birthday memorable!

We had to wait about 10 mins past our reservation time to be seated. Overall the meal was good. Nothing blew us away. The scallops were good. I subbed out grits for the crab risotto. Not much crab flavor. The cornbread was really good and complimentary.
Our service was great. Great location on the river.

I can’t believe this place isn’t talked about more, or maybe I’m just living under a rock.

There seemed to be no bad seat in this restaurant, but the back (heated) patio with the view of the river can’t be beat in my opinion. Perfect for special occasion or nice date night. Our server was lovely – she was attentive, friendly, super knowledgeable about the menu, and seemed able to read our minds whenever we needed something.

The Kentucky Sunset cocktail is a must if you enjoy an amaretto sour. The complimentary cornbread was delicious and a nice surprise that we ended up taking home with us for a late night treat.

But the absolute star of the show was the seafood platter – BLACKENED. We came in having been recommended this by multiple people and I’m so glad we listened. The grouper cheeks, scallops, and shrimp were all heavenly. The blackened seasoning blend is the perfect combination of smoke and heat. I wish we were served a bucket of the remoulade sauce. The coleslaw is genuinely some of the best I’ve ever had.

We got the sweet potato peach cobbler for dessert and didn’t care for it. It remained uneaten, but everything else was just SO good that I didn’t even care.

The River House is easily now one of the top places I’ve eaten in Louisville.

Would definitely recommend a reservation. Very fairly priced for the quality served. Parking fills quickly, but there’s an overflow lot a short distance away.

Came here for dinner and loved it on every level. First of all, if you can be seated outside, do so. We sat on the furthest end away from where we were led in which afforded us a beautiful view of the sunset along the Ohio river. Came here in mid October so weather was perfect. There are atonic chairs down by the river that you can sit and sip a cocktail while waiting for your food.

We started our dinner with a smoked old-fashioned that comes in a nice crate with a photo worthy presentation. The oysters were delicious as was the shrimp cocktail for appetizers. For dinner, I had the salmon. Incredible tasting impaired nicely with the side of brussels sprouts that were made perfectly just wading in lemon and bacon. We finished off dinner with a Kentucky Derby pie that was excellent. Definitely recommend this experience while in Louisville, it is located next to an older water tower that is very photogenic.

Very nice restaurant with indoor and outdoor dinning. Great views of the Ohio river. I had the New York strip steak it was very good and cooked perfectly to medium! My wife had seafood Alfredo and egg roll appetizers. She was very pleased with her dinner.

This was our second visit to River House, and unfortunately, we had a similar experience both times regarding seating.

We had a reservation for three adults and two children and arrived during a quiet lunch hour when many tables were available. Despite this, we were seated in a very corner, isolated outdoor table far from other guests.

What made this more disappointing is that this was not our first time experiencing this here. Having the same situation happen twice made us wonder whether families with children, or possibly Asian guests, are consistently being seated in less desirable areas. I truly hope that is not the case, but that was honestly how it felt.

I want to be clear that all other staff members were kind and welcoming. However, the host who greeted and seated us was noticeably unfriendly, and it took an unusually long time to decide on a table despite the restaurant being mostly empty.

River House is a beautiful restaurant with great potential, but seating choices strongly affect how welcomed guests feel. I hope management will take this feedback seriously and ensure that all guests feel equally valued in the future.

Updated! We just had our second dinner at river house and it was even better than the first! Our server Casey was amazing! He was on it from the stsrt with honest opinions about specific drinks and dishes. Our table of 7 never wanted for anything he was always right there without feeling like he was hovering. The food like last time was great! Great food and great service. We sat out on the patio on a dreary post derby Sunday. They have heaters and fire pits out there so you will not be cold. Honestly when we were about to leave I started to get hot. Next time I think we will sit inside, I preferred the ambiance inside.
