Since 1950, Whataburger has proudly served a bigger, better burger. It all started when a young entrepreneur named Harmon Dobson had a bold idea: to serve a burger so big that it took two hands to hold, and so good that after a single bite customers couldn’t help but exclaim, “What a burger!” He named his humble burger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas, “Whataburger.” Over six decades later, we’re still family owned and operated. Each and every Whataburger® is still made to order. We still use 100% pure beef and serve it on a big, toasted five-inch bun. And now, as we proudly serve burgers, chicken, salads and breakfast at more than 800 Whataburger locations across the country, that first burger stand is still close to our hearts.

Circa-1950 fast-food chain for counter-serve burgers, some stacked with multiple patties.

I visited the Whataburger at 8840 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32216 on October 29, 2025, at 10:27 AM (Order #535020) with my associate to get breakfast, and it was one of the most unsettling experiences I’ve ever had at a restaurant.

When we asked the cashier, Samone T., what types of breakfast burritos were available, we were met with a sharp and unprofessional “What?” which immediately set an uncomfortable tone. When we repeated our question, she replied, “Potato, bacon, and sausage.” My associate ordered sausage, and I ordered bacon.

At the drive-thru window, there was no greeting or courtesy the cashier simply opened the window, held out the tap-to-pay device, and didn’t provide a receipt. The entire exchange felt intentionally cold and dismissive.

A few minutes later, a manager came to the window. The difference in tone was immediate she was polite and professional, and the atmosphere shifted noticeably. The receipt listed Ayana Skipper as the operating partner, though I cannot confirm if she was the manager who assisted us.

The manager handed us our food, and when we requested extra sauces, she instructed Samone T. to provide them. At that moment, Samone T. gave us the sauces with a smug grin that felt deliberately disrespectful.

After parking to inspect our food, I discovered a strand of hair intentionally placed inside my breakfast burrito. Having previously worked for Whataburger, I know this type of contamination is extremely unlikely to occur by accident, especially at the drive-thru stage where employees do not handle food directly.

Beyond the violation of professionalism, this also presents a serious public health and biohazard concern. There is no way to know what diseases or biological contaminants another person may carry, and being exposed to someone else’s hair or bodily material is both unsanitary and unsafe. Customers should never have to worry about coming into contact with another person’s biology in their food.

I have photos and retained the hair sample as evidence for DNA testing and potential litigation. I urge Whataburger corporate to review the video footage from that date and time and address this serious breach of food safety and professionalism immediately.

I didn’t think to take a picture of the hamburger and milkshake I had but it was all good. The team leader was motivating the team and the manager was watching everything with an eagle eye. I felt like I was in good hands. Service with a smile and the milkshake was delicious, as was the hamburger.

That’s Disgusting
Why would you allow your employee to stand there in public view with his pants sagging below his but while handling customers food?

Completely unacceptable.

It was my first time ever eating at whataburger and I can truly say I had an excellent experience thanks to Bri. She provided outstanding service from start to finish friendly, patient, and professional. She took my order without rushing me, personally brought my food to the table, and ensured I had all the condiments I needed. The food was fresh and flavorful, and the restaurant was spotless. I will definitely be back !

Ashely deserves everything that’s coming to her. She’s an incredible personality after hours and should be acknowledged and compensated accordingly. My 5:23am experience couldn’t have been any better!!!!

I saw a sign near the speaker that said free kids meal with purchase of whata meal. So I ordered a number 13 tender meal, with honey mustard, and a kids cheeseburger meal, with ranch and with apple slices, unsweetened tea and cookie. I asked if the second sauce came with and they said it was extra. I asked about the deal before ordering thinking that it would be taken off by the time I got to window. Also that never told me my total at the speaker, they just told me to pull around.

I get to the window, they say it’s 18 soemthing as they grab my card, I’m like wait what about the deal. They swipe it without hearing, I said it again and where like “ I’m sorry it’s my first day” or something, I’m like ok. Then they ask for the manager, so I’m thinking they are going to refund me right then and there. No, they hand me the food and say have a great day. I’m annoyed and want to go home so Im thinking I’ll just just deal with customer service to get my money back.

I get home to realize there is no cheese on my burger, all the sauces are .40 each, there are no apple slices in the kids meal, and the tea is all sweet. I clearly corrected them with they reappeared “sweet tea” back to me.

Stopped by for the BurntPeanut order and it did not disappoint. I had the Buffalo Ranch Chicken Strip Burger with jalapeño ranch on the side, a large order of fries, three spicy ketchups, and a large Coke. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and exactly what I was craving. Service was smooth and the order was spot on. Solid Whataburger experience all around.

dirty store and rude staff. the lady who took our order interrupted me twice to talk to other people, and then audibly complained in the middle of my order when 4 more people walked in the door. keep in mind, i was the only one at the register. so much for a welcoming environment…
the food was good though
