Everything we tried was amazing, but the braised beef grilled cheese deserves a special shout-out, it was perfectly crispy on the outside, loaded with tender, flavorful beef and melted cheese. Total comfort food heaven!
The staff were friendly and attentive, even though the place was busy, and the service felt genuinely warm. The milkshakes and fries were also fantastic, exactly what you’d hope for in a classic American diner.
Whether you’re visiting L.A. or a local looking for that old-school Hollywood charm, Mels Drive-In is a must. Great food, great energy, and that perfect mix of nostalgia and fun.

We had brunch at Mel’s Drive-In on Sunset Boulevard after visiting the Walk of Fame, and it truly felt like stepping into a classic American diner. The retro interior is iconic, and they offer free valet parking, which is convenient in that busy area. It was very crowded during brunch hours, so the service was a bit slow, but the staff was friendly.
The milkshake was a standout—super delicious! My daughter and I had French toast, which was okay but not exceptional, while my husband really enjoyed his biscuits and gravy with eggs. Overall, the atmosphere and experience were memorable, but the food and prices didn’t fully live up to the hype.
