Used to come into The Big Tomato with my grandfather before he passed away. They are now under new ownership but the atmosphere is still the same as always. We were greeted by Melony who was very kind and polite. The food was absolutely delicious and filling. I love this place and I will always suggest The Big Tomato to anyone looking for a great meal.

A solid tasty meal with generous portions. Had two over easy eggs that were cooked perfectly, and really enjoyed the breakfast potatoes with onions and peppers in it. It is a very casual place, but I found it charming with the tomato and mushroom wallpaper, classic old ceilings, a bar seating. It’s inexpensive, it’s good, and a perfect place for a quick meal. Service was great.

When you want to do it right, this is your place. Eating at the corporate diner gives you cold food. The Big Tomato serves it HOT! And not only is it hot, it has flavor, and made with love. When you see Steven cooking, you know those potatoes, with the onions and peppers, don’t come out mooshy. It isn’t just the food. Your coffee tastes great and never runs dry. Service is amazing and you aren’t a stranger. The atmosphere is one of a multigenerational diner that has seen and witnessed the test of time. You can feel the people who were here; who had their morning coffee before social media, who sat at the counter with a paper. This place is great. The food. The people. The ceiling. The whole package.

A great place for breakfast!
The breakfast burrito with chorizo was excellent. Each bite was flavorful and the melted cheese added a great texture and more flavor. The salsa was great and added some freshness.
The pancake had a great consistency and was tasty.
The service was great!

The Patriotic pancakes were the best I’ve ever had! The portion that I got was beautiful. I enjoyed talking to Steve (the chef)! He was very charismatic and got my meal ready in a very timely matter. 10/10! Would come again!

Wonderful little diner in Poughkeepsie. The food was cooked perfectly, and it felt like a true diner experience. Great pancakes, great eggs, great sauces. The price was also exceptionally reasonable. The only thing I wish they had was real maple syrup, instead of pancake syrup. I’d absolutely recommend!

What a treat eating at the Big Tomato! Perfect diner/luncheonette vibe and food to match. You can sit at the counter and watch them make your food or sit back at the many tables.
The staff is super friendly and you feel like you’re watching a sitcom as you eat and enjoy the banter between the cooks, servers, and register person.
Lastly, the prices were reasonable and I got a few coffee refills! I’d love to go back if I’m ever in town again.

Local old fashioned no nonsense diner. The food is solid diner food but – their regulars will get food before visitors – expect about a 30/40 minute wait when busy as a visitor. If you have that type of time- it’s a solid breakfast. Super nice waitstaff.
