I had a very unpleasant experience at this restaurant.
I asked for extra towels from the woman wearing a pink shirt who was sitting near the entrance, preparing forks and spoons for incoming customers. She seemed to have difficulty understanding English, which I completely understand and respect. To make it easier, I politely pointed to the towels under her table.
She responded by saying “Table,” but I didn’t understand what she meant. I looked around the nearby tables trying to figure it out. Suddenly, she shouted “Table!” at me in an angry and rude tone. I felt very uncomfortable.
I decided to walk back to my table, and she followed me while continuing to shout “Table.” It was unnecessary and very unprofessional. I later found the tissue box on my table, but there was absolutely no reason for her to react with anger or shout at a customer.
Customer service matters. Unfortunately, because of this rude behavior, I will not be returning.
The real problem I ran into was that while we were there for about an hour in which there apparently was a “dinner” change over. It seems there are some options on the buffet that those charged the lunch rate are not entitled to. A woman came onto the dining room floor, and loudly yelled at the waiters and waitresses near us in what I expect is Chinese. She then stormed over to my table and yelled at me in broken English and pointing to items on my plate. She told me, gesturing to my bill in her other hand that I could not have those items because I was being charged for lunch not dinner. I apologized explaining I didn’t realize the difference and I didn’t know which I was being charged for. She told me forcefully and loudly that I could not do it again. It was embarrassing in front of my friends, but understandable I guess.
Unfortunately for me that wasn’t the end of it. Later the bill was brought, no extra charge and we got up to pay at the register at the door. We had overheard another group ask about where to pay and they had been told at the front and it seemed quite obvious. Before we could exit our booth a waitress literally ran over and pointed to our bill for our payment. I gave her my card slightly embarrassed and still sensitive from the earlier mistake. She returned my receipt and left the table while I calculated a tip and signed it. Again we moved to get up from the booth and she literally ran over again to grab the signed bill and snatched the pen from the table I front of me as if I intended to take it with me. She then took my bill about 10 feet away and scrutinized it closely. She then brought it to another waiter showing it to him and spoke to him in Chinese seemingly asking a question. He looked over the bill and shrugging handed it back. She then took the bill and went back into the kitchen rather than taking the bill to the front register. I was left with the feeling that the earlier angry woman had told them to watch me closely as a thief.
In the end my friends had a good natured laugh at my expense over the ridiculousness of the situation, but I dont see a real reason to go back. There are other options in Grand Rapids with better food and far better service I think I will introduce my friends to.
Update. They have started asking who’s eating knowing it’s always me. Service is getting worse and causing both of us to no longer want to be here. They have started putting us where they can watch us closer every time. It feels like we’re in prison when we just want to eat. They also didnt clean the cup i got today very well. I wiped lipstick off the rim. I dont wear lipstick and obviously neither does my dad who is the only one who comes here with me
