This is THE best seafood restaurant in Brighton! We’ve been wanting to try The Gothic Crab for ages and we were not disappointed. Firstly the staff and service there were fantastic, very welcoming, helpful and had a great energy about them. The Head Chef/Manager Jake couldn’t do enough for us. Inside is a majestic interior design with chandeliers, gold velvety and dark walls that compliment the name. The seafood boils are a popular choice but we tried their newest menu of appetisers and small plates which were delightful! (With a couple of aperitifs on the side of course). Oyster Shooter, Popcorn Cockles, Soft Shell Crabs, (OMG!) Green Lip Muscles, Red Prawns, Crab Loaded Fries, (Double OMG) and Deep Fried Oysters. Honestly the best Seafood we’ve ever had, these plates with sooo tasty! We also got to have a sneak peek of the new refurbished downstairs for private hire which looked awesome for party’s and events with the friends/family or work doos. We will 100% be going back with our friends and family to share this epic seafood restaurant. Thanks to Jake and the team for a wonderful experience and food!

Booked a table here for my daughters 16th birthday, she had seen a seafood boil and wanted to try one. It did not disappoint, the food was lovely, fresh and she left full up.
The bill was more expensive than a usual eat out for us but it included the service charge (and the service was good) a bottle of wine and oysters. I’d eat there again if back in Brighton.
Id definitely book to avoid disappointment as only a small eatery, beautifully decorated too.

This place has it all – the decor, the knowledgeable and friendly staff, amazing chefs, warm and inviting atmosphere and fabulous seafood.
Thank you Kez and Jake for an amazing evening. We couldn’t have asked for more on our dinner date.
Both of us being ex-hospitality, we find it hard to find places that have it all. Fortunately, The Gothic Crab is definitely one of them.
If you’re into seafood, especially seafood boils, this place should be on your list to visit.

Really amazing experience. Me and my lovely girlfriend were celebrating our anniversary and wanted somewhere to have our first seafood boil and this place came highly recommended. From the moment we came through the door to the moment we left the service was exceptional and well above what we were expecting. They were friendly informative and made us feel very welcome. The food was second to none and absolutely gorgeous that even though it was huge portions we wanted to battle through it was that good. Definitely coming back soon and couldn’t recommend highly enough

Came here for our 1 year anniversary and we knew we had chosen the right place as soon as we stepped through the door! Such a friendly team and made us feel very welcome 🙂
The food was perfect, definitely exceeded my expectations (which were already high due to the reviews I had seen prior) and we will definitely be coming again soon to try more of their menu!! Cocktails were also lovely and fairly priced!
Looking forward to seeing the downstairs restaurant + jazz bar when finished

I came here with my partner as we like to try new food spots whenever we visit Brighton. This place has an insanely bright future as their seafood is some of the most flavourful we’ve ever had in Brighton. Unfortunately I couldn’t catch their names but the brunette hostess and the chef/manager were absolutely lovely and treated us with absolutely care and made sure we enjoyed every part of our experience. I suggest going early evening if you like a more quiet and intimate experience. Will definitely return to enjoy their fresh, flavourful and massive portions

I had a friend from out of Brighton come to visit and we both love seafood (and it was her birthday recently) so we chose The Gothic Crab. We were warmly welcomed by the whole team and our waitress Kiki was so friendly and chatty right off the bat. We ordered the classic seafood boil apiece (my friend is also halal and they catered for this which was another bonus point!) with Cajun sauce, and the garlic butter sauce as a side dip after we heard Kiki talking about how great it was. The food was absolutely amazing, really well seasoned, and you get a ton of lovely fresh seafood for your money.

During the meal, Kiki refreshed our shell bowls multiple times which we both agreed was a really nice touch as they filled up quickly and we didn’t make a mess. I also liked how they provided bibs and gloves so we didn’t destroy our clothes.

We both really enjoyed our meal and will absolutely be back! Thank you so much. Highly recommend!

Delicious food, however we had an unfortunate negative experience.

We could tell that this was not the usual service, and the table next to us seemed to have the time of their lives, so we didn’t want to kill the vibe by complaining but a few things happened that people may need to be wary of. Our boils arrived and we were ready to eat, but the shell dishes were forgotten, so the gentleman on front of house apologised and brought them about 5 minutes later. Then forgetting the dips that obviously make up half the excitement when eating a seafood boil. Another 5/10 minutes and we let the gentleman know – another apology and the dips were brought out. Our food was stone cold by this point. Still delicious but would have been better nice and hot. Then we found the boils were missing the promised sausages (another apology, another solution) and finally the bread that we ordered never turned up.

We did not complain at the end of our meal as this was our anniversary, and we didn’t want to ruin our own day much less the very kind host, however there was no further apology for our experience, and no initiative to offer to discount our meal when we had very clearly had a negative experience.

Despite this, I would absolutely come back, as the food was delicious even cold, and I’m sure this experience is not what the Gothic Crab usually aim to serve their guests.
