Update 01/27/2018 – Captain Bills continues to excel as one of the best seafood restaurants in town.
Update 01/26/2019 – Still excellent. Not as fancy as Mariner’s Inn, but more upscale than Nautigal.

Took my family out for my father’s birthday. The only negative was just a part of eating outside – bugs in the water and loud conversations at other tables. Our server Jen was amazing and attentive. The meals were delicious and flavorful. A great time was had by all!

Just finished a fantastic meal. Service was great. I had surf and turf. The stake was perfect. Medium rare to perfection. The shrimp was great too. The outside seating had great sun and rain umbrellas. Yes it’s Wisconsin. We needed both sunshade and rain protection. We were also treated to a beautiful rainbow. Our server invited us to stay as long as we cared. The view was great. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

At the end of the meal I regretted going here. With so many good restaurants in town, I shouldn’t have picked this one. We had a reservation and we were on time for it. There was a crowd in the waiting area and a lot of confusion on the part of the staff. Most of the people waiting had a reservation and we were all told “we’re not honoring reservations and we are trying to do our best”. Huh? A customer should feel welcomed instead of made to feel like they are a problem. They did seat us about 15 minutes later and the inside was barely half full. There were also people seated outside. It was obvious to all that they were seriously understaffed. The food was fine. We ordered fish fries and it seemed to take longer than it should have for those to come out. Kitchen was understaffed as well. The only reason I’m not giving this one star is because our server was friendly and made the best of the situation.

Pretty much exactly what you would expect from a generic seafood restaurant. Steak, lobster, fried shrimp, fish. The clam chowder was good. The food was above average. The staff seemed frazzled. We had a reservation, but were told we would have to wait with the rest of the people who just showed up. They said the wait would be 45 minutes after our reservation time. The hostess told us that she want allowed to give estimated wait times, only the manager could do that. Thankfully, their estimate was way longer than reality. It was fine, but I don’t need to go back.

Awesome meal at a reasonable price. We are obsessed with the clam chowder. My steak was perfectly done (m. rare) and the scallops were tasty. We also got some cocktail shrimp that were delicious. AND my margarita was very good!

The food was fantastic! I would recommend the coconut shrimp, crab cakes and clam chowder. Our wait staff, “Admiral” Kirsten, as we dubbed her, was fabulous, attentive and has a great sense of humour – so ask to be seated in her section! And, Captain Bill’s hosts a monthly memory cafe and is a dementia friendly restaurant…how amazing is that! Our group of 11 would highly recommend this restaurant!

What a terrific evening! The Crab Cakes were delicious and the drinks festive! We ordered from the lighter fare menu but the portions were perfect for us! My steak was perfectly done and my wife truly enjoyed her salmon. Our waitress Naomi was attentive and sweet. We were so touched when she surprised us with a wonderful desert for our anniversary. We will be back! Thank you for making the night so special!

My mother and I had reservations for Thursday night at 7:15. We arrived around 5:45 and drank at the bar. Thursday’s are all day happy hour with $2 off beer and wine, $3 off any mixed drink, $5 off any small plates of appetizers and $10 off any large plates of appetizers. The deal is only good as long as you order from the bar. I would highlky recommend (and what a lot of patrons were doing) is make a meal out of that, just ordering and sharing apps. They have a lot of nice choices. The drinks were good, and my scallops were cooked to perfection. My mother ate her scallops and two of mine. I thought the seasonal vegetables were a little underwhelming on the plate. It was just basic green beans and corn on the plate in butter. Nothing special and a little odd combination, but the green beans were cooked perfectly. Service was good at the table, but It was also quite dead. The bar service could be described as spotty and confused. Lots of people not knowing what to do, however when you got your drink they did taste good. It also didn’t help that a man I’m assuming was the boss just stood in the way of everything talking to his buddy at the bar for over an hour. Bar seats are very limited, so it can be hard to find a seat.

The best thing about this place is the portion size: you’ll get enough to be full, but not so much that you’ll need a doggy bag. Otherwise, the views are mostly good, though there are a few tables that can’t see the lake. It’s not a great place to take younger kids though, since the bathrooms are tiny and the space relatively tight. It’s not cheap either; kids meals are 7.50 and fairly basic. Also, even though the portion size are good, it’s expensive for what you get. It would be nice if wait staff knew the menu a little better (our waitress didn’t know what was in the crab cakes).
