Awesome piri piri chicken, dripping with juice yet not greasy
The line was about 20 mins on a Sunday afternoon. The chicken was super super fresh – cooked from raw, then straight off the grill and into your box
On weekends the minimum order for chicken is 1/2 chicken.
Because this is a local shop, English isn’t guaranteed. Please be polite and ask first if English is ok – there was one staff member who spoke English. The staff were all polite and helpful.

This place serves awsome super delicious grilled chicken. Supersoft, juicy and smoky . Comes with spicy or lemon sauce. The service was quick and friendly. And they accept credit cards. The menu is simple and easy to understand and they also have good lunch deals. This place is a hidden gem. Just 10 minutes walk from Roma metro station. This place is very popular with the locals. That’s when you knownits really good.

Rio de Mel is a truly unique and authentic spot, the kind of place that feels completely local, traditional, and full of character. It’s not a tourist-oriented restaurant, and that’s exactly what makes it special. From the moment you arrive, you get the sense that this is a place loved by locals, built on simplicity, authenticity, and flavour.
The atmosphere is rustic and traditional, with a straightforward setup that focuses entirely on what they do best. And what they do is very specific: they only make chicken on the spit, served with crispy French fries. No fancy menu, no unnecessary additions, just perfectly cooked chicken, continuously roasted and served hot, fresh, and unbelievably tasty. You can actually see the chickens constantly turning on the spit, and the smell alone is enough to make you hungry.
The chicken itself is exceptional. Truly one of the best I’ve ever had, juicy, tender, full of flavour, and perfectly seasoned. The fries are the ideal companion: crispy on the outside, soft inside, and served in generous portions. It’s simple food, but done at an excellent level.
We found Rio de Mel through Google, and the reviews were absolutely right. Though it’s located far from the center of Lisbon, it’s definitely worth the trip. If you want to experience real, local Portuguese flavours in a traditional setting, Rio de Mel is a place you must visit. A delicious and memorable experience

Maybe the best chicken I have ever tried. The taste is amazing and the quality is clear from the first bite. There is no seating since it is only take away, so it is even better if you eat it right outside while it is still hot. Make sure to try the sausage too, it is just as good.

This was a great experience away from the main tourist areas. After queuing for a few minutes we went for the peri peri chicken and french fries which were amazing and devoured very quickly. Takeaway only, but there are plenty of benches nearby on the street.

Juicy and flavorful. Might be the best grilled chicken I ever had. Peri peri sauce is mild and complements the chicken. I also tried the sausage which was also pretty good. To set the right expectations; this is not a restaurant where you can sit and eat. There is only package service. If you come, you should come only for the flavor.

First off, the chicken was pretty damn good. It is not dry and the sauce is really good on the skin. Unfortunately, the flavor gets a bit lost inside the chicken. The rice was really damn good too, and my partner loved the sausage. Honestly, if you havent had lots of roast chicken, this is probably a 5/5. Unfortunately I ended up comparing it to some back home which I like more.

5/5 for the grilled chicken, the chips were too greasy for our taste though. Take away only.
