There’s seasoned warm bread, olive oil, and olives that were complimentary and delicious. Another waitress ended up taking our sharing plates a bit prematurely when we wanted to get more bread (we did end up getting it).
For drinks I got the Manhattan which I found to be a bit sweet and also the jet lagged which wasn’t as sweet and was very refreshing. Both drinks were quite boozy which was great.
For the appetizer we got the calamari. I found these to be perfectly seasoned and fried. The sauce was also a nice addition and the texture of the calamari was very tender.
I asked the waitress about the pastas and was told that all pastas are housemade except the gluten-free ones which I find to be quite amazing. I then decided to get the shrimp scampi for my entree. It was excellent. 4 huge shrimp which were super fresh, tons of garlic flavor, and a good amount of tomatoes to help brighten up the dish. The chitarra had great texture. Would definitely look forward to trying other pasta dishes after having this.
My friend got the NY strip. I tried the fries and thought they were crunchy and delicious. The strip looked like it could have a better sear on it and she mentioned it was underseasoned. Perhaps leave some salt/pepper on the table?
For dessert we got the pistachio gelato. Tastes super legit. Like pistachio butter, super nutty, and very creamy. Loved it. Overall I feel this place has great potential. I’m a huge fan of The Hawke, and have enjoyed dining at Metro North. Since the owners are the same as Il Dono, I am looking forward to how this restaurant turns out.
We came in for dinner, the restaurant is all new so naturally it’s nice but the quality of the food & service is just not there. Our entrees were all under seasoned and overcooked. The chicken was hard and stringy and the pasta did not taste fresh, almost as if it was cooked days prior and re heated quickly. Our strip tasted cheap and was also overcooked.
We wanted to say something but couldn’t find our server for 15 minutes so we just ate what we could. 2 of our drinks were really good, 2 were made completely wrong.
The menu prices seemed cheap and now we know why. We go out a few nights a week and this won’t be in our rotation for a while.
Lets start with the good. Their crispy mozzarella was to die for. Honestly the truffle honey on them added the sweetness I never thought I would need in my life. Their meatballs were just okay, but the presentation was nice and to have them placed over ricotta was a nice touch. Octopus was cooked to perfection, but the side salad with it was just okay as it usually is.
Onto the just okay part, which would be the entrees. The carbonara pasta was so dry the noodles were clumpted together. I was going to ask the server for more sauce, but the server was not able to be found. The steak was ordered medium rare, definitely served rare. It almost felt like they made the pasta and forgot the steak and just threw steak on the grill while the pasta shriveled up. I will say the quality of the steak was great.
They do have fun cocktails on the menu and the one ordered was just okay.
As for the service, it started out great then we waited for quite some time for drink refills. Had to ask for takeout boxes twice. They were all very kind and friendly though.
I feel the resturant is new, and needs to learn how to serve with the abundance of people. It felt like they were not prepared or ready. I highly suggest giving this place a try though, just wait a few more months until they have a well oiled machine.
