Although I was given more than I ordered I must say the chicken was not fresh at all and made to order. The chicken was dry, super salty, chewy and extra crunchy. I almost choked when eating. Not sure if I’ll be returning but I was hungry for some fried chicken and drove there from Fort Lee, it was just bad. Seemed like it was cooked chicken from the day before… Maybe two. Idk but chicken should be made fresh by order in the fryer or baked. It’s very obvious the chicken is old. I was hoping I found a gem but it’s far from it. I doubt I’ll be returning. Service with a smile but I really suggest you change the fried chicken process. What your doing is not working. I see others as well with the same experience as myself. Why not learn from it and have the customer return for fresh fried chicken made fresh by order. It’s upsetting.

EXCELLENT! A great taste of the Caribbean with a fusion of dishes from Cuba, Puerto Rico and of course the Dominican Republic. Truly good quality meats and flavor. For 5 stars the prices have to come down and breakfast has to be served earlier.
**Update 5.16.22: I really no longer wish to dine or get take out here due to the HUGE lack of consistency in the quality and taste of the food, portions and sometimes freshness. For those who know this restaurants menu and signature dishes as well as I do, and know how good they were when they first opened…it’s taken a bit of a nose dive that really frustrates me. SALTY bacalao (cod fish dish) not left to drain long enough to remove the salt it is preserved in, some red meat cuts loaded with cartilage, fat and veins but thankfully the rotisserie chicken remains good and the salmon (when they do make it) plus their assortment of beans and rice combos are still good.
I believe this is largely due to a constantly revolving staff as their “now hiring” sign is always out. This of course effects the quality and taste of every single dish from cook to cook and then at times I have encountered servers that give a mountain of rice and very little meat or whatever protein you’ve chosen. Hot tip: let them know exactly what you’re thinking as they’re putting your dish together and it can get fixed and ask for the cuts with the least amount of fat. But while I’m on this note, should we really have to do this every time? It’s gotten too old…

This place is really good but can be intimidating if you’re not used to it. It’s insanely hot inside — feels like 1,000 degrees — and not the most inviting spot. The staff doesn’t speak much English, but I’ll swear by their chicken and moro. I’ve had it over a hundred times, and it always hits.
That said, the interior isn’t great, and you’re definitely going to leave smelling like onions. If I take it home, I have to double-bag it just so my car doesn’t reek for three days.
With all that being said, I still stand by this place and eat here often — the food is just that good. I just probably wouldn’t bring a friend here unless they were Dominican or already knew the vibe.

Excellent Dominican type of food spot that you will not find around here…you have to either travel to Passaic, Newark or Paterson or even West New York NJ for this type of food. They are very generous with the portions as well. You can check it out but there will be Lines!

Delicious! Clean space, large portions, super tasty! The owners are behind the counter filling orders and helping customers, it’s truly a family run restaurant. They are sincere and care about the customer experience.

I ordered the Moro Rice with Fried Chicken, Vegetables and Sweet Plantains. I ate from this 3 times!

I will be returning.

Honestly this location isn’t as good as Guttenberg and thats mainly for the fact that they do NOT put gravy on the food so it is hecka dry. It only taste edible with the gravy unfortunately. I’ve ordered from them quite a few times and they almost always forget the gravy even when I state “the food is not good without the gravy please add extra and charge extra if need be” they simply do not care. I called them about it and all they could say was they ran out of gravy but then said that they did have gravy like huh? So I honestly just won’t order from here anymore hella pointless. Rice dry as heck! Guttenberg location ONLY!

I have no idea what’s going on I’ve been eating johnnys for well over 25 yrs and it’s just a disappointment the staff is airy headed an if you order a Sancocho it should not just be water with a lil piece of chicken an one piece of malanga. It’s a hearty dish. You guys need to get it together yall slipping

Place is very dirty, unprofessional.

Second, be careful ordering online they may refuse to give you the order & try to upcharge you. Seems a bit off. My total was 8.80 with taxes, the combo in person is for 8 dollars .. somehow person behind the counter refused to give me my food & wanted to charge me more.

Avoid at all costs
