We chose The Magic Flute for our wedding reception because we wanted something intimate, charming, and uniquely San Francisco — and it was absolutely perfect. From the start, the team was so easy to work with, accommodating every detail with kindness and professionalism.
The evening itself was magical. The food and wine were incredible — our guests couldn’t stop raving about both — and the service was friendly, attentive, and fast. The restaurant’s warm lighting and beautiful ambiance made every photo glow, adding to the cozy, elegant feel we hoped for.
We wanted our guests to experience the heart of San Francisco in an intimate setting, and The Magic Flute gave us exactly that. Our night was truly special, and we’re so grateful to the entire team for making it unforgettable.

I really love the old San Francisco atmosphere here and the service is good but I have to say that the quality of the food has gone downhill. This place taught me to love salmon but the salmon on spinach that I had the other day was so salty my mouth was actually burning. It was also incredibly expensive for a meal that was a bust to put it lightly.

Food was incredible, beautiful presentation, explosive and balanced flavors.
Great atmosphere! We ate a little earlier dinner in the back patio and had the place to ourselves.

Fantastic spot – amazing food with great outdoor garden space at the back with heaters in case it gets cold. I’ve been here twice and plan to come back when I’m next in San Francisco

Charming neighborhood restaurant. The food is great and the vibes are right. Had Arancini to start and they were fantastic. Had the clam pasta as my main and it was wonderful. Just the right amount of vongole and really flavorful. Also, great wine selection. We even found a new Etna Bianco that we really loved.

We came here on a cold and rainy night. The restaurant was nice and warm inside. The front room was full so we had to sit in the back.
Our waitress was extremely nice and accommodating.
They have a very simple menu.
The garlic bread was light and fluffy and very garlicky.

Really amazing food. The chicken sandwich I had was delicious, and I felt as though they redefined the meaning of “flavor” in a sandwich!
It was rich and the texture was perfect, the bread had a great consistency, and the coffee was wonderful.

We made a reservation on OpenTable for their outdoor patio on Saturday for brunch. We were sat right next to their fountain, which was great at first but there was some occasional water splashing on our table/food. My friend and I both ordered Hunter’s scramble, and for drinks I ordered a bellini and she ordered a greyhound. Our drinks arrived right away, however, we weren’t provided any water glasses. I asked the wait staff several times for water, which was not provided until a few minutes before we got the bill. This was discouraging as all tables around us had water glasses and they were refilled several times throughout our meal. I guess don’t order cocktails if you’d also like water with your meal. I liked the Hunter’s scramble though did think the portion was a little small for the price. My bellini was all right but my friend did like the greyhound.

I had my wedding dinner at the Magic Flute Restaurant nearly 40 years ago. I can’t believe that I haven’t written about it! The Magic Flute always has an interesting menu and delicious food. Some friends and I happened in the other evening and got a table in the front window (my favorite place to sit because it is quiet, though the restaurant is not very noisy), and we had the date dish, ravioli and whatever the other dish is that is pictured. It was all fabulous. I’ll find photos of other meals I’ve had at the MF. I eat there frequently! It’s my go-to neighborhood restaurant.

Cute place, decent food, good service. Cute courtyard on a nice day. Overpriced by about 20%. Pie ala mode was $23. Pasta vongole $27 overcooked and watery but good clams. Fried calamari was frozen and thin. Sauce without taste. Also super quiet for a Wednesday night – just us and another couple. Not bad overall but probably won’t come back unless for wine on the patio.
