I can’t speak about the other review since they arrived at 7:00 last night 12-25-25 because I had left at 6:35 PM.
We called the restaurant on Wednesday because in previous years for Christmas Day take-out they asked us to place the order a day in advance. But this year they said to call on Thursday the 25th.
We called at 2:00 PM for a 5:00 PM pickup for 6 adults and a child’s dinner.
I arrived at 4:55 and saw there were people waiting outside, and inside near the tables and 10 to 15 people gathered around the counter and cashier. When it was my turn, I offered the phone number the order was placed with and was given my order number and a response that there was no way to tell when my order would be ready.
If I was told that the wait would be an hour, I would have left and ordered pizza.
My order was handed to me at 6:32 PM one hour and 32 minutes after my pickup time. Did I feel entitled to get my order in less than an hour and a half, definitely!
One of the four dishes was wrong, but the food was good.
I heard the the restaurant had recently changed owners, I cannot say that is a fact or not. I can say that this is the first year that the restaurant was in a complete state of chaos, both for dinners in house and for those waiting to take out. It was clear that they had overbooked the dining areas with reservations, and I have to assume that they never stopped taking take out orders. They even continued to take new orders as people were arriving to pick up orders that had been placed after 6:00 PM.
When the orders did come out of the kitchen, there were approximately one order every 10 minutes, and the crowd kept getting larger and more upset. The management was woefully unprepared to handle the ridiculous number of orders that they accepted. And they deserve to get slammed by everyone that they took advantage of by taking the orders with the obligation to fill those orders in a timely manner, and for not updating customers with a time to expect the order to be filled, and having people stand in the restaurant for what was 90 minutes in my case. Shame on you!

You can’t miss this spot! It’s under new ownership and recently renovated — everything looks fresh and inviting. As a Chinese foodie, I was so impressed by how authentic the dishes were. The spicy boiled fish, and crispy roast duck were all full of flavor, just like home. Highly recommend!

My girlfriend and I had not been there in 3.5 years, and was told after we had dinner that there was new owners..The special soup was good, the boneless pork was pieces not slices, but tasty with sweet candy sauce. The Steak Kew was the worst I ever had. it was tough and well done. it was not filet but some other low standard NON-USDA garbage. I could have been Horse meat I asked the manager to to take off the bill and he said” since we ate part of it, and we finished our dining, he could not. I boxed it up and would feed it to stray dogs. I would never go back there again, and afraid what type of meat they are serving. I might ask the DEPT OF HEALTH to check them out. FYI, they are try to open another venue next door , doing an all you can eat oriental BBQ. G-d help the people of BOCA RATON. I rarely ever write reviews like this.

This place is under new ownership! Disregard any previous reviews. Being from New York and living down in South Florida for three years I’ve been on a dire search for Chinese food. I think I have found the holy Grail of Chinese Dimsum! Every dish had more flavor than the next. Not one dish was disappointing and I will say this is the best meal I’ve had in South Florida so far. This place is conveniently located just off of the Florida Turnpike.

I’m really glad that this place opened in Boca Area!! We’re in west Boynton Area and there are no good Chinese / Dim Sum place near by.
This restaurant is located near the Turnpike on Glades near the City Fish Market.
Food is great! Dim Sum are on the pricey side but portions are bigger also. We used to go to Real Wok in Boynton and Grand Lakes in WPB but this restaurant is better in portion and flavor. Kitchen dishes are still a little inconsistent because we ordered some clams and black bean sauce and both times came out different taste.
Service is okay, not bad but just typical Chinese restaurant service. I feel like the service could improve since it located in Boca Area. That’s the only reason I give this review a 4 instead of 5.
Inside of the restaurant is nicely decorated like banquets style restaurant. Nice booths, chandeliers and decors. However, like any other Chinese restaurants the cleanliness seems to be overlooked. Ceiling tiles not pushed in all the way, Windows are little dirty, soy bottles and condiments are kind of dirty, bathrooms can be little more clean.
Hopefully, this restaurant can keep its quality and cleanliness consistent.

Formerly known as Shanghai City, this restaurant has been a staple in the plaza since the late 1980s. While the name has changed, the interior remains almost identical, and unfortunately, it’s showing its age. The space could use a renovation and deep cleaning—there are noticeable stains on the walls, sticky tiles, and the menus are still the original Shanghai City ones, complete with worn-out, decades-old holders. First impressions aren’t great.
The “new” aspect of 818 Shanghai seems to be the addition of a dim sum menu and some new Cantonese dishes. However, the main menu remains unchanged and still features American Chinese classics under the old Shanghai City branding. The staff is new, but the transition feels incomplete.
We ordered exclusively from the dim sum menu, which is currently being reprinted, but take note: the English translations don’t always match the Chinese descriptions, so double-check your order.
The others in my party—Ming, James, and Rachel—enjoyed the food more than I did. While I didn’t dine here under the previous ownership for comparison, I found the dishes underseasoned and lacking flavor. It felt like the kitchen is holding back on seasoning, possibly omitting MSG to cater to local preferences. This blandness mirrored my experience at 818 Asian Fusion (another spot under the same ownership), leaving me underwhelmed overall.
Our group avoided most seafood dishes since James doesn’t eat shrimp, so I can’t comment on their seafood mains. We did try the beef chow fun, which came recommended by Ming’s Chinese friend. While the ingredients were fresh—the bean sprouts crisp and the beef perfectly tenderized—it lacked the depth of flavor I expect from this dish. The pork fried rice was similarly well-executed in texture and preparation but equally bland.
I might return in a few months to sample the seafood mains and see if the kitchen has found its stride, but for now, I’m hoping they address the cleanliness and overall presentation. The restaurant needs a serious refresh to shake off the lingering reputation of “Shanghai Sh***y” from its previous iteration.

Not a good night for 5 couples looking forward to a yummy meal & pleasant atmosphere. We had a reserved table for party of 10 in the smaller room on the right. No one greeted us or even acknowledged us for quite a while. Meanwhile, a very loud group of young college age kids came in & took 2 tables, being a party of 12. They basically never sat down, just ran around the room, yelling & being very annoying. They also were not greeted by any staff. We finally got a waitress who seemed like she was the ONLY worker in the place, as she too always ran out of our room & into the one on the left. We finally got the crispy noodles & duck sauce…too bad we got one small bowl for our table of 10! After a long wait we got drinks, an hour and 15 minutes after that we got our food. I will say the food was good…no complaints there. Too bad the lack of an attentive waiter & extremely noisy customers who ran around the room detracted big time from our experience. We have been there before & we’re really looking forward to a great evening. NOT THE CASE! A very big disappointment. We will not be back.

10 of us eat at this place the other night for the first time. It was a holiday so we didn’t expect great service but we were hoping the food would be decent. Everyone in our group was disappointed. We sampled many different items on the menu and no one was happy with their selection. The only item that was decent was the spare ribs. Their chef’s special seafood dish was 85% vegetables with two shrimp, a couple of pieces of rubbery calamari and some very small pieces of lobster tail that was mostly shells. The shrimp and lobster sauce was more like a runny soup, although the shrimp were tasty.The chicken and broccoli dish contained so much cornstarch it was slimy and not edible and the same was true for the beef and broccoli.
We waited 90 minutes to be served although, in fairness, it was a holiday, and our expectations regarding service were not high.
By comparison, the night before I joined a group of friends at REAL WOK located on Hypoluxo and Military Trail. The place was jammed because it was a holiday, but the service was excellent and, more importantly, the food was outstanding.
Normally, I would give a restaurant a second chance, however, given their high prices, skimpy portions and horrible food preparation, this one doesn’t warrant another visit.
