We decided to try this place due to some reviews online. Simple set up. Reasonably clean. Plenty of parking available. Prices are reasonable. Friendly staff. We got ourselves 2 banana leaf meals with 2 sides, chicken varuval & fried ikan bulus.

Firstly the BLR comes with 3 veggies, papadam, salted chili, mango chutney & rasam. Unlimited refill as expected. There is also lime pickle if requested. Curries the usual players but we got the fish & keerai curry. The veggies were well made & flavorful. Mango chutney could be more sour. Fish curry was spicy & decent but the highlight had to be the keerai curry. Home cooked & packed with flavor not a watery mess like most places.

Sides wise the chicken varuval was average at best. Could be spicier. The fish was nice but soggy. Fresh & quite a good size. Unfortunately they can’t really fry fresh so can’t do much about it. Miss the crunchy bits of eating bulus.

Drinks wise we tried their iced Nescafé, iced lemon juice & fresh milk masala chai. We expected quite a bit from the latter but it didn’t really hit the right buttons. Lacking in the right mix of spices & the tea was rather weak. The other drinks were okay.

Overall we enjoyed our lunch. Worth a return. Nothing outstanding but a good simple homely meal.

Came back after a year, had lunch and was surprised to see that the dishes are now laid out behind a partition of sorts. You have to walk to the back where it’s narrow. The layout has changed and the place for dining looks brighter than previously.

The food and curries were tasty and we were glad we came back to give another chance

Last year:
Firstly, how was the food? It was fine, looked good, curries and dhall were tasty enough though everything was not warm and drinks were dilute. Empty in the afternoon, service fast.

Then come the complaints :
1) We read reviews, saw the banner for “
” Buy 1 banana leaf meat set, and you will get 2nd banana leaf veg set for RM1″ hung above the shop.To double check, we asked a man taking orders if this offer still applies. He referred to a lady, who confirmed the T&C is must add on ONE additional side dish.

2) After ordering 2 banana leaf sets, we chose a Chicken 69 (or 65?) side. Very small portion…7 cubes of white meat – one with a tear ( the shop was basically empty save another table with one man ordering 1 roti canai and a drink. )
I’m wondering who are you saving the perfect pieces for? Are you in a rush and scooped whatever?

The rice comes with 1 poppadum each, variety of dishes doesn’t look like the photos but it’s ok. Wish the dessert wasn’t sitting in the pool of curry gravy though no mango chutney

3)A 3rd man comes over saying he will offer us the promo of Buy 1 banana leaf, second is charged RM1 ….if we get TWO side dishes. What? Less than 5min ago we are told it’s buy 1 side, now it’s become 2? And if we don’t – then the price per banana leaf rice set goes back to RM10.90.

4) We contemplate and ask him, how much is this side plate of chicken ? He says it’s RM6. But we decide to try out one dish first cos already feeling hoodwinked by this point.

The chicken wasn’t anything special at all. So we just quickly finished what we ordered, turning away the rasam and offer to replenish rice.

My (60+ yr old senior citizen white haired uncle) companion is still upset and rants to the lady who is the cashier. She decides to honour her original statement. The bill is paid and we go. On the way out, in a corner side path outside the shop, there is a bunting stating senior citizens above 60 can buy the banana leaf rice set at RM8!!

In the car, I check the bill. It shows RM8 for the chicken. What……….

Too tired to say anymore, don’t want to turn back and haggle over food like this. Business must be run the correct way. If your promo has ended, pls don’t mislead the customer and change terms.

folk here have fresh milk, which is already win. so order pasembal bru or masala chai. nested cup serving format is genius in that it enables enduser control of cooling, and also aeration.

kesari is likewise good, either by itself or as counterpoint to caffeine.

service is friendly, but uneven timeliness wise. for example, order of roti and eggs will not arrive at same time. workaround is to order as roti goyang or sarang burung, which forces issue.

doesn’t always work, as eggs still get to table over-cooked.

full spectrum of breads even for lunch, which is commendable. can vouch for idli, puri and tosai, in addition to roti. that said, masala tosai could use more payload.

always ask for chutney. sensors to max here, as it’s different and surprising every time.

Came by this newly opened restaurant in USJ 2 , pretty much looks like a mamak from outside but turn out to be a place that serves authentic Indian food . Went by around 11am and lunch was served , they do have quite a variety and quite fast service.
You get to choose either banana leaf or you may order on a plate as well . To my suprise they even had crab masala something not usually found in many places . They had more than 5 types of vegetables , 3 types of chicken dishes , 3 types of fishes , mutton and many times of curry too ✅
I ordered their chicken varuval , ladies finger and sambar . The chicken was delicious and really enjoyed the food . My mum took just rice and tauhu Sambal as she was vegetarian and stated it was yummy as well .
For drinks , I ordered masala tea and my mum ordered bru coffee . The masala tea was thick and flavourful . The bru coffee was well prepared and strong .
The overall meal with drinks cost me only RM23.50 which was affordable and definitely will come back to try other dishes .

Ordered bru coffee (hot) using Grab and added the “less sweet” remark, but the drink was too sweet. Could hardly taste the coffee as the taste of condensed milk was overwhelming. Plus the hot coffee was delivered using “ikat tepi” method, which is a horrible way to package and deliver a hot beverage.

I usually like to come here for breakfast and dinner. I always come for thosai and the vadai. The best according to my tastebuds. Chapatis are fluffy too. But thosai wins it for me.
This time around i would like to recommend this Nasi Goreng! Packed with flavor. If u like the taste of cooked raw garlic, spices, fennel seeds and good amount of vegetables (diced onions, cabbage and carrots). You must come here! Never knew there’s “wok hei” for this style of nasi goreng. Not too spicy, dry and not oily. Ayam goreng is optional, it’s normal. RM11.50 for Nasi goreng ayam.

A brief tip off on a local community chat group alerted me to this wonderfully authentic local Banana Leaf Restaurant and a good thing too. This eatery delivers where it counts, in sheer depth and taste of the dishes available. Depending on the season and availability of fresh ingredients, expect a wonderful curated selection of dishes. IMO, the slow cooked mutton varuvel was definitely the highlight for the lunch here. Even the choice of default vegetables and lentil dhalls complemented the rice oh-so-fabulously. Washing it down at the end with a portion of unsweetened fresh cow’s milk Bru coffee just capped off what was an incredibly delicious and satisfying lunch break on a Friday afternoon. Highly recommended.

The banana leaf was really good. Nice veg and the side dishes were well made and tasty. Lots of options too. And the mango chutney is to die for. There was a big breakfast crowd as we were there for early lunch and the poori and dosai look pretty good too. I finally tired their breakfast and it was so good. Definitely recommend.

The food here is excellent. The setting may look like a regular mamak shop but the banana leaf rice is excellent. My favourite is the fish curry and mango pachedi! The masala tea is also pretty awesome.

Authentic banana leaf experience to be had here. The chicken and goat curries are slightly spicy and were pretty good. We had the mutton varuval and the meat was juicy and came apart easily, they took the liberty of heating up the dish as well. All in a decent banana leaf experience to be had which won’t be too harsh on your wallet. With each base set coming in slightly over RM10
