First off i would like to start with the atmosphere, it makes you feel much better than the food and the service. You’re immediately hit with the scent of the wood smoked grill in the back of the restaurant and that was beautiful. I expected the food and service to be much better than it was. Over all our table ordered a few different items from duck, salmon to whipped mashed potatoes, carrots and the parmesan French fries. It over all was underwhelming for the price. As for service it was a little lack luster, at times it felt like you were talking to a wall, im not really sure how else to describe it. As someone who travels for work and loves spending money on worthwhile food.. it just didn’t make it to my “when im in Seattle again I need to come back here!” List unfortunately.

This restaurant is located right on the ground floor of Hotel Theodore, which makes it super convenient if you’re staying there. We decided to stop by right after checking in since their happy hour was going on, and glad we did!

We sat at the bar where Ben, the bartender, took great care of us. He was attentive, full of recommendations, and even shared a few local tips on what to do around town. The restaurant has that open-kitchen concept, which adds a nice lively touch. Their happy hour runs daily from 2 PM – 6 PM, and here’s what we tried:
Smoked Salmon Fish Dip with Sourdough Bread – absolutely delicious! Smoky, savory, with just the right amount.
Oysters on the Half Shell – fresh and local, can’t go wrong there.
Manhattan – my boyfriend’s drink of choice.
Paloma – my pick, refreshing and well-made.

The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. I even managed to get some work done while enjoying my drink. I chatted with a friendly local sitting next to me who gave more nightlife recommendations (Seattle folks are seriously the nicest!).

Overall, Rider is a great place to unwind, enjoy good food and drinks, and soak in that welcoming Seattle vibe, especially convenient if you’re a guest at the hotel.

Great brunch! The White House breakfast and the pancake were both delicious! Taylor was a great waiter and recommended a great drink for me! The potatoes were so crispy and lovely. Will come back again!

Had a wonderful valentine’s/anniversary dinner here last night.
We bought a bottle of wine that stole the entire show.
The staff is so kind, the food is amazing, the service is quicker than one could even imagine.

This is a great place to visit after work. The food is great and the service is awesome. I get that it can be on the pricey side but the food quality makes up for it. Highly recommend for a special experience.

Came here for dinner and Ben and Lexus were great! Had a good time chatting and enjoying the environment. We had several drinks and all of them were good, they had great suggestions. We started with Calamari, Clams and Mussels which were incredible! Our dinner was good as well and the fingering potatoes served with the entrees are incredible and crispy. Only issue was my steak being well, well done and I ordered it medium rare. I did ask if it was put in as medium rare and he agreed it wasn’t. He offered to remake it however I didn’t want to waste it and it was okay to eat, still had flavor and they helped me out with it. Things happen and it was handled very well so I wouldn’t hold it against them at all. Great time spent here and we thoroughly enjoyed our time here!!

$30 for undercooked pasta and was underwhelmed by the little bits of lamb in the red sauce, which was extremely tasty but not enough of it. Should have been served with a little pot of more sauce. I was too concerned about embarrassing my date to say something about the undercooked pasta. I had a few bites and scraped out the little bits of lamb and sauce and went away hungry.
The server was amazing however.
As was the glass of wine.
Loved the way they served the raw oysters, on a metal container of ice.
Beautiful decor with the subway tiles and metal.
We came back for dessert at the bar which was lovely.

I got the 44 oz porterhouse steak. It was okay. There was parts of it that were cooked perfectly medium rare like I ordered and other parts of it that were cooked well. They did not get an even cook on the steak and it made the steak very Hit or Miss.

The whipped potatoes were okay. I mean they were as good as normal mashed potatoes were I didn’t really have much of a garlic flavor to them even though I did see pieces of roasted garlic in there. It was okay.

The alcoholic drink Papa legba that I got that was really good. That was probably the only thing that I’d say was above average.

I also helped out with their seafood sampler for four. The shrimp were very fishy smelling which is not good. You don’t want fresh shrimp to smell very fishy. They were okay. Oh no bad reactions. The clams were all right. Barely any flavor to them. The tuna tartar tasted like just avocado. They did not do the tuna tartar well at all.

Ultimately here I’d say save your money and go somewhere else. There’s a lot better options to get food around here. It’s overpriced for a very ritzy atmosphere that does not deliver

Great spot for a business lunch, or a quaint dinner with your partner or friends.

Location is very convenient, food is high quality, and staff are professional. Great selection of choices, classic Americana and plenty of seafood. Drinks available as well – would check ahead to make sure available, as corporate usage of this place seems quite frequent.

Excellent place to enjoy a meal when staying at the attached hotel.

This was our second time visiting Rider, and once again the drinks were excellent — a big thank you to Elezar, who is extremely talented.

I also want to give a huge shout-out to the hostess working tonight. Unfortunately, I didn’t get her name due to how busy it was, but she was truly amazing. I even remembered her from our first visit, which speaks volumes about how great she is at her job.

That said, I witnessed something this evening that was very disappointing. From where I was seated, I observed what appeared to be a manager speaking to her in an aggressive and unprofessional manner. She had been asked about seating a large party and calmly explained that the timing wasn’t ideal to seat them right away. In response, this staff member became visibly upset and raised their voice at her. The hostess walked away afterward, and it was uncomfortable and upsetting to witness as a guest.

Rider is a great place with good drinks and food, but seeing staff treated this way is concerning. I truly hope upper management addresses this issue, as no employee deserves to be treated like that — especially someone who clearly cares about doing their job well.
