I love that the owners are local and part of our community.
Our favorites are the eggplant, green (long beans) and salt and pepper fish! Highly recommend.
Thank you for your hospitality and the delicious meal.
Service: Standard, didn’t lack anything
Ambiance: Casual
Value: 4/5
We ordered the chongqing style beef, cabbage, cold noodles w/ chicken and dumplings. The Chongqing style beef is definitely a specialty item and more “unique” where you may not find it at every Chinese restaurant. This was my favorite dish and imo really good. The cabbage was tasty and the rest of dishes were good, but nothing mind blowing.
Service was standard where we got refills timely and food came out quick, but nothing above and beyond.
I would come back again for certain dishes and that comfort feeling.
Update 5/25/24: tried the Dan Dan Noodles and didn’t love them to be honest! Very strong/bitter tahini flavor, and no szechuan peppercorn. I also got the Redwood Original Spicy Noodle Soup (again), and it was even better than the first time!
Update 6/14/24: I ordered the Redwood Original Beef Hot Chili Sauce; unfortunately it came as chicken instead. It was very spicy and flavorful, but probably not something I would get again. I also had the R.O. Spicy Noodle Soup (for the third time), delicious as ever.
Update 7/6/24: I finally had the Chongqing Style Dried Sauteed Beef with Chili. It was so so so good! Crispy texture, delicious five spice and chili flavor, and large quantity. Along with the R.O. Spicy Noodle Soup, it was a perfect lunch!
Food: Every dish I’ve tried has been flavorful, fresh, and satisfying. Portions are generous. You definitely get good value for what you pay. The lunch specials are especially impressive.
Service: The staff is friendly, prompt, and attentive. Whether dining in or ordering out, everything arrives hot and well packaged.
Ambience & Value: The atmosphere is casual and comfortable. Not fancy, but clean, inviting, and perfect for a relaxed meal. It feels like a place you can count on for consistency. And for what you get, the price is very fair.

This little cafe doesn’t look like much from the outside, but you’ll be instantly amazed the moment you walk in. Our waitress, Lulu, is one of the nicest people I have ever met in my life. Aside from providing the best service I’ve ever experienced, she went above and beyond by telling me (a new grad student) a lot about the area. It’s nice to feel that someone cares about you.
The food itself was beyond outstanding. The imperial pork chops were the best. Coming right out of the fryer, they were really crispy and tangy. The fish in chili oil goes great over rice. If you’re looking for an authentic Szechuan dish, this is it. It may be too spicy for some, but you can ask to have it mild when you order.
Overall, the food and service were both outstanding. It’s about 7 miles away from my campus, but that’s not going to stop me from coming back.
Service can be improved but I guess the character of the owner is very straight.
