Just a plain great sandwich!
Had the fried egg sandwich with bacon and cheese. You can’t get better than that. Bread was toasted, cheese was melty, bacon was crisp and not paper thin. All the ratios were right.
Service was friendly and fast, price was right.
I’m in town on business and have been trying different places with no luck, fast food breakfast just isn’t as exciting as it used to be. I used to come to Poppy‘s years ago and really liked the hotdogs. I grabbed a breakfast sandwich at Hardee’s the other day, and as I was leaving, I noticed that Poppy’s was open for breakfast. I tried it today and I found my new favorite fast food breakfast spot. I just want a place right off the freeway, that’s affordable and fast with good food, Poppy’s is it, and you can support a local business.

Now, this is a real hotdog spot off Bainbridge in Chesapeake, Poppy’s TopDog has the best dressed dogs in town. I looked over the menu and was torn between a Philly cheesesteak and a cheeseburger so guess what they did for me they gave me a cheesesteak burger!! my girl Johnny was amazing and my guy Lazz has amazing chef skills as seen in my photo. I will be definitely returning here. It’s an awesome diner come check it out and enjoy.

Family owned American breakfast and lunch restaurant. It’s quaint and has a friendly diner vibe. The owners really take pride in their business. They greeted many customers by name. They serve up hot dogs, burgers, and sandwiches after 10 am, and breakfast plates before. They make homemade items such as chicken salad, potato salad, chili, cakes, and handcut fries. I loved my beef hotdog with chili. There is limited counter and table seating. Very reasonable prices, which makes this place a popular lunch stop with the local workers.

This is a slice of Americana that is sadly disappearing. It’s an honest to goodness little food shop and serves amazing comfort foods. You are immediately warmly greeted and service is fast and friendly. Poppy will chat you up in a minute and is just a great guy, period. He’s got jokes and so on to share. And it’s clear that he loves his shop and customers too. He calls regulars by name and will chat as he can and still make fast and tasty food. I ordered the Poppy’s Special omelet today. I’m 66 years old. And it was the biggest omelet in my entire life. It was impossible to finish it! And it was just delicious too.
Please give them a try for some great comfort food when you can. I promise you will not be disappointed!

I like the mom and pop atmosphere. I had the best chicken Philly and home fries I’ve had in my life there. Service make you feel at home. I will visit frequently.

Great Food ! But wont stay open past 1:00 this is 2nd visit they havent been open. U cant make money or good rep if u close cuz u dont have anyone to work, u have to work it urself, thats the deal with owning ur own place. Shame cuz Sono doesnt have many good places to eat especially their menu items. Stay open please. Disappointing to take my money somewhere else when poppys was what we wanted. Excellent food get there early you will love it. !
UPDATE : And again Dec 10th 2022 closed at 2:00 I love this place but this closing whenever u feel like it is crap. They have great food but at least keep ur door open till 3:00 .
Update sorry for ranting on them.closing its just tough to want something and they be closed. But waiting for them is worth it ! They make a great Philly cheese steak and have the best beer battered onions made I mean its real onions with the good old fashonied beer batter you cant get a better onion ring than that. I know everyone loves the dogs but the philly cheese steak ans onion rings is the BEST !!! Treat yourself its always hot and good even take out. Worth every penny cant say enough good things about Poppys a real treasure thank you for being in SONO to give us a better choice than the chains out there. What u provide is so much more.
