Neighborhood trattoria with a warm vibe for Italian comfort food, plus California & imported wines.

What a cute little place! Super friendly owners and helpful staff. We went in for dinner on a Thursday evening. The ravioli appetizer was delicious and had so much yummy melted mozzarella! The spaghetti with meatballs and the chicken parmigiana were both very good. The atmosphere was great! Because we were celebrating a birthday we had requested the front window table which was cozy and romantic! If you find yourself in the area, swing in for some Italian food while enjoying an awesome atmosphere with friendly staff.

I liked everything about this place – the vibe is cozy and nostalgic, like a little step back in time. I ordered the Salmone, and it was light and refreshing, which I find perfect for summer. Don’t skip the bread or cheesecake; both were incredible! I tried the pasta from my friends and it was quite nice too. Super charming spot. I’ll definitely be back.

You know with such an adorable name it’s going to be a good time and it was. It’s a very homey little eatery, and my dining companion and I really enjoyed ourselves. The service was friendly and attentive but not invasive. I would definitely return.
Chicken Parmigiana with Side Salad and Bread – The side salad was especially good with the peppercorn ranch! The chicken was fine, but it did NOT heat up well as leftovers.
Chocolate Flourless Espresso Torte – Super rich and delicious – especially whatever kind of sauce gets poured over it. Highly recommended!

I’ve been wanting to try Carmelo’s forever and finally thought ahead enough to get early dinner reservations for my family on Saturday night. I did not realize how intimate and classy the vibe would be, and brought my kids (4) and (6). While I don’t think there are a ton of younger diners that visit based on who we saw eating, the staff was amazingly friendly and kind. My kids love practicing their “fancy” manners and it was a great chance for us to have a higher end meal together. I would make sure your kids have more robust pallets and a tolerance for keeping their cool during a full meal if you’re going to bring them along. There is no kids menu (but great spaghetti and meatballs!) and the tables are cozy. Normal kid behaviors might make for stressful meal for you and your dining neighbors. I would also go early to avoid a bigger crowd.

This is such a great family owned spot. Everything is homemade. Their peppercorn ranch salad dressing is my favorite salad dressing anywhere – I wish I could buy it. The ravioli is delish, along with the homemade bread, tiramisu, my husband loves the chicken Carmelo. I could go on and on!

I’m really not one to write a bad review but I will not be back. I work with quite a few foodies and they were all intrigued when I told them that I was going to try a new Italian spot that no one had ever heard of with my neighbor Saturday night. Now I kind of know why we’ve never heard of it and reading the poor reviews I realize I am not the only one that had the experience I did. I’m honestly baffled by the good reviews and am wondering how this restaurant has been able to make it in such a competitive twin cities restaurant market. Reading the snarky and unprofessional comments that the owners leave in response to the negative reviews make me regret even patronizing their business. I really wish I had read the reviews sooner. For every bad review left, there’s got to be a lot more people that just won’t be back. Maybe appreciate the feedback of your business and work to improve instead of attacking the reviewer. I will be telling my coworkers at work next week not to bother.

The annual spot for my wedding anniversary!
Fantastic local location (Transit access via the A Line Bus) with delicious food, very personable service. You know what you are going to get with Carmelos and it’s always going to be great! Strongly reccommend eating here and supporting a local St Paul Business.

Lovely traditional Italian restaurant in St Paul. We had Arancini, salads, fresh baked bread, Spaghetti and Meatballs, and Sundried Tomato Pesto pasta. The dining room is nice and cozy. Service was friendly and attentive. We had reservations at 5pm and the restaurant filled up quickly and stayed full the entire time we were there.

You must try the Caesar salad, the croutons are incredible! Their freshly made bread is also delicious. One of the best bruschettas I’ve had. Great service, great atmosphere and yummy food. Definitely worth trying.

This is a local gem! Service is always friendly and the food is delicious. It is small, but that’s part of its charm. Definitely call ahead to make a reservation just to make sure you can snag a table for the night. And save room for dessert!
