Wepa Cocina Criolla

We ordered several items from the menu with the yellow background and everything was excellent. I had the Taino sandwich, and she had the mofongo—both were flavorful, well-prepared, and clearly made with care.

The dessert was a standout. Light, smooth, and calming—not overly sweet—and it genuinely felt good after the meal.

Great location, relaxed atmosphere, and the service was excellent from start to finish. This place delivers on food, quality, and experience. Highly recommended.

What a gem! I lived in Chicago for a few years and was frustrated with the Boricua restaurants. Nothing I tried felt like back home. Wepa is what I was waiting for, something that transports me back to las montañas de la Isla. The food was 10/10, super authentic. THE TEMBLEQUEEEE IS AT ANOTHER LEVEL!!!! The service was also top notch. The owner was very happy to chat with us and share his story, tell us about his finca in PR and eveything. Just delightful. Can’t wait to go back.

Maybe I’m biased because I grew up on this stuff, but the food here is incredible! I felt like a kid again. Authentic, delicious, not overwhelming. The service was wonderful too–we came in a big group only an hour before closing, so we felt guilty about keeping the employees around, but received the same level of kindness and hospitality you’d expect at any other time. Highly recommend for curious customers and born boricuas alike.

I had the Taino de lechón. Meat was tender and juicy, the tostones are fried to perfection! Ask for the #3 pique to spice it up a bit and you have perfection! The owner Jorge is a great person, he checked on our group several times to make sure we were having a good time. 5 out of 5 highly recommend!

Service was friendly and quick. Our server explained the menu to us as we were unfamiliar with Puerto Rican cuisine. We had the stuffed potato ball and the cod fritters as an appetizer as recommended and we were not disappointed. We shared the Cuban Taino sandwich made with crispy Plantain in place of bread.(Highly recommend) and the Chicken Entree with beans and rice. SO MUCH FLAVOR!!! Check this place out you will not be disappointed!

I went here wanting to try something new and I was so pleased with my choice. The service was friendly and attentive, the food was quick, but all fresh, hot, and delicious. I tried the plantano maduro for appetizer, mofongo de lechon, and then had the tembleque de coco for dessert, and a passion fruit juice. Prices were very reasonable. I will definitely be going back again to try other things.

We went with a coupon without much expectations. We were pleasantly surprised by the good service of one waitress and both owners also came to ask how everything was! The food was fresh, tasty, sauce was great (taíno kind of like thousand island or yum yum sauce). The fried yucca was unique, almost like petals or shreds of yucca fried to a golden crisp. The mofongo (plantain sandwich) was excellent, generous meat portions and tasty. I highly recommend to try something new and different and we will be back again…

Finally, something truly new and different in the Lafayette area. I’m admittedly not familiar (yet) with Puerto Rican cuisine, but I was excited to try it. The owners were super friendly and happy to answer questions about the menu. We started with fresh bread, made in-house, which was very soft and sweet and delicious. I ordered the Taino de Bistec and really enjoyed the crispy plantains. The beef was nice and tender and well-seasoned, and the fresh veggies were a perfect compliment. I was glad that extra taino sauce was provided, because it was really tasty, too. I’ll definitely be going back to try more of the menu. The atmosphere was also really nice; in addition to the friendly staff, the island-themed decor and upbeat music playing in the background made the cold February day feel a little warmer.
