We found this place on a whim and had the most incredible meal at Diwali! The menu showcases a variety of dishes with something for everyone — beautifully crisp dosas, tons of flavorful vegetarian options, and plenty of delicious meat dishes for the carnivores in our group.

The dosa was the star for me: paper-thin, perfectly crispy, and served with chutneys and sambar that tasted unbelievably fresh. Every dish we tried was layered with spice and aroma without ever being overwhelming.

Service is warm and welcoming, and the staff really cared about explaining dishes and helping us choose. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the atmosphere is cozy without feeling crowded. The owner, who is incredibly passionate about sharing the flavors she loves, is so kind and attentive.

Whether you’re craving comfort food, exploring new flavors, or dining with a mixed group of dietary preferences, this place nails it. We enjoyed it so much that we came back for my husband‘s birthday and tried some new things which all were a hit.

Quite a surprise. Wasn’t expecting much given the very generic Indian name, and unusually high ratings on Yelp and Google. However, every single dish was tasty. The service was professional and the ambience, nice.

– Goat chukka dry: Mild spicy, goat was excellently cooked to the point of shredding
– Shrimp curry leaf masala: a little bland to our liking. Could be spiced up a lot with crushed black pepper, and shallow fried onions
– Egg dosa: nice texture, the egg is noticeable, batter felt fresh, chutneys and sambar were above average
– Spicy Bullet Naan: generous dose of butter, soft, and tasty

Street parking can be challenging to find based on time of the day / week.

Overall, works as an option to come back, but likely wouldn’t go out of my way to repeat.

AMAZING food, even amazing service. The hosts are so friendly, sweet and welcoming. The chicken 65 and vijaywara chicken biryani is our favourite. We have been here 5 times in 3 weeks already!!
Also the music here is so beautiful, full old Indian songs – reminds me of home every time.

I recently ordered catering from Diwali for our baby shower last Sunday afternoon, and it was absolutely amazing! We had food for about 50 guests, and every single dish was delicious and served hot. The quality and flavor were outstanding—truly the best Indian food I’ve had in a long time.

All of our guests kept asking where the food was from because they loved it so much. Everything arrived on time, perfectly prepared, and made the event feel extra special. Highly recommend Diwali for anyone looking for top-notch Indian catering!

The food was unbelievably delicious with plenty of options. My favorite was the Chettinad Chicken please eat that. And the naan was perfectly fluffy.
Also the rice was insanely good idk how they did that it’s better than normal rice. I don’t have the vocabulary To describe how delicious this was! The ambience of the restaurant was perfect. Dim lights and chatter, it feels like the perfect cozy dinner environment. Also amazing service!!! Go support this new wonderful restaurant

We had such a wonderful experience at Diwali Indian Cuisine! The food was absolutely delicious – we had tandoor chicken, king fish curry, garlic naan, tandoori roti and Nutella dosa for our kid – full of authentic flavors. The ambience was warm and welcoming. A special shoutout to Kamala, the host and owner—she’s incredibly kind, down to earth, and made us feel right at home. Truly a gem of a restaurant. Highly recommend!

Diwali Indian Cuisine is a gem! The food is flavorful, fresh, and absolutely delicious—every bite is a treat. The manager is the highlight of the experience: super friendly, welcoming, and genuinely funny. He had us laughing the whole time—honestly, he could do stand-up comedy on the side! Great food, great vibes, and great people. Highly recommend!

Our new favorite Indian restaurant in SF! Best dosa we have had in the city. We also got the pani poori and biryani which were delicious. The staff is incredibly friendly and were very accommodating of a nut allergy. The space is bright and cheerful. Perfect for a date night out or a dinner with friends. Highly recommend!

We started going here when they first opened one day after my daughter’s dance class…. and now we go back almost every week! Even my kids love it (one is a picky eater!) I have always loved this cuisine, and have traveled extensively in India- and this food is authentic and delicious! The spices are fresh and the food is exploding with flavor. Everything we try is amazing, my biggest problem is trying to balance wanting to try new dishes on the menu while yearning for the items I already know and love. Honestly, from the dosas, to the biryani, uttapam and curries it’s all good. The chutney’s are fresh and homemade and the raita is just heavenly. The staff are very sweet- a lovely woman and mom runs this place, I believe they’re her recipes, and you can tell she puts her heart into this place, she is so welcoming! Also a plus- the ambiance is warm and inviting. Especially during this winter- it is nice that the restaurant is not cold! 5 plus stars!

kamala is super nice, I really wish I can give 5 stars but the food was too spicy after asking for mild both times i visited including sweet paneer butter masala….. if you enjoy spicy food highly recommend to go on the regular

I’ll still come again but hope they can customize atleast 2 or 3 dishes for people who can’t eat spicy food so I don’t need to get yogurt or mango lassi on side
