The food was excellent, from the appetizers to the desserts. The service was stellar. Peyton was our waitress who recommended the chef special Chilean Sea Bass and a great bottle of red wine. We also had the filet mignon, mussels in garlic butter, lobster bisque, chocolate cake, and the cheesecake. ALL of these items were perfectly prepared! Peyton was the perfect mix of personable and professional. I even spoke to the manager Francisco to let him know that we truely enjoyed ourselves, the food, and the service. I will definitely be back!

Food was delicious, the vibe was great. We dined on a Monday night, so it was a bit quieter. I appreciated that. However, the service was great. Malik is a fantastic and attentive server. We had the fig + apple pizza – if you are thinking about getting it, do it. It was flavorful and hit the spot. The chicken avocado tagliatelle was also sooo flavorful, but maybe too creamy. Lastly, the chocolate cake hit the spot!

I finally made it to the Smashing Grapes in Columbia, Maryland, and overall it was a very good night, with a few moments of “almost great.”

We started with the charred octopus and the lobster bisque. The octopus was the early favorite: flavorful, nicely charred, and honestly a steal at around $12. Slightly chewier than my personal gold standard, but I would order it again without hesitation. The lobster bisque, on the other hand, clocks in at about $28 and comes with a lot of hype. It was good, but noticeably salty and surprisingly light on lobster. I like salt, so if I am raising an eyebrow, others might raise both. Possibly an off night, but at that price, the bar is high.

One of us ordered the $65 prix fixe menu, which included a salad, short ribs with fingerling potatoes and carrots, dessert, and wine pairings. The salad was excellent. The short ribs were tender and flavorful, though the portion felt a bit polite and again leaned salt forward. The wine pairings were well chosen and genuinely enjoyable, which helped the overall value equation.

Separately, we ordered the Chilean sea bass with bok choy and mushrooms, and this dish really delivered. It was beautifully cooked and sat on a deeply crunchy, savory base that was not the skin, a fun and unexpected textural detail that showed real care in execution.

We also tried a seasonal specialty cocktail that may or may not still be on the menu. It was delicious, balanced, and not overly sweet, the kind of drink that disappears faster than planned.

The space itself is large, attractive, and thoughtfully laid out, with multiple seating areas that make it feel lively without being chaotic. The service was excellent: attentive, polished, and warm without hovering. Smashing Grapes clearly knows how to run a dining room.

Would I go back? Yes. Did I enjoy myself? Absolutely. Did I leave thinking this was the best value in Columbia? Not quite. I am happy to spend money on a great meal, but at this price point there is stiff local competition.

Smashing Grapes is a stylish, well run restaurant with solid food and great service. Dial back the salt just a touch and be a bit more generous with portions, and it could very easily move from very good to truly great.

Unironically one of the best restaurant experiences I’ve ever had. Didn’t even plan on going to this place but ended up here after an overwhelming day. First off, staff is wonderful. The hostess, I think her name was Kesh or Cash or something around that sound, was one of the nicest people ever and sat us right away. Then our waiter, who might’ve been named Cassius or something like that, was so funny and attentive to our party of five. The food was also great. We all got different dishes and appetizers but I got the mussels, short rib sandwich, and chocolate mousse. It was great and all of my friends liked the food as well. Highlights were the fries and the mousse. Also the restaurant is very well decorated. I would describe it as elevated atmosphere but not to any extreme level. Would be cute for a date night or special occasion. 10/10 will be going back.

My husband and I were recommended this place since Blackwall Barn had a really long wait. The bartender and host were amazing. Our actual waiter was not good at all. He ignored us until we had the host go find him. The host (slim male with dreadlocks) and the food being delicious is what made the experience not so bad. The host apologized for the waiter’s actions and was very more accommodating. I’ll definitely come back, but will not be served by Dominic.

The moment we walked in we were welcomed with an amazing warm and cozy, yet modern atmosphere. Casseus, our server for the night, was truly amazing and was super helpful with recommendations and witty with his jokes. Food was delicious, wine was amazing, everything was a 5/5 night.

Overall, the restaurant was great—the food, service, and atmosphere were all enjoyable. We ordered two appetizers and two entrées, and everything was excellent except for the tacos, which were a bit bland and had an overpowering char flavor. I may be a bit picky, but out of the three carrots I had, one wasn’t tender and was slightly crunchy, especially compared to the other two, which were very soft—though I’m not sure if that’s how it’s supposed to be. Definitely recommend the muscles appetizer. Forget take a picture of it because it was so delicious.

Jamie made sure that our evening goes as smooth as possible. We got a private party room so our party can feel more private, and it was really well organized and planned. Thank you for the great service and amazing food quality and presentation.

Came in as a party of 4 on a Friday night. We were seated promptly. There was some live music/singing happening as well. Payton was our waitress and did a good job. She was attentive, accommodating, and honest. The shrimp and lobster bisque was delicious. The Mediterranean salad (I added steak) was also very good. I had the tropical spice tequila cocktail and probably wouldn’t order a cocktail here again. It was quite light. I would suggest to stick with wine. There is also not a full bar given the establishment is a wine bar with limited spirits. The interior is very nice. I would return if I’m in the area.
