I love a good tavern pizza, but the crust here is chewy.
If you have her recipe, bring it back! She made a delicious, light and flaky crust.
We’ll come to find out, this is “Gino’s North,” as explained by the surly bartender/waiter, “we don’t serve deep dish here.” That was highly disappointing to say the least, being it was our one and only chance on this trip to get that classic Chicago dish. That being said, the flat pizza we did order was excellent. At least there was that.
The other issue we had was the place is tiny. Just some bar stools and booths that can fit about four. We managed to stuff in 5 adult and set up one child on a chair in the aisle. It was a bit uncomfortable for sure. Additionally, I ordered an IPA (India Pale Ale) and he brought me an EPA (Extra Pale Ale) – for non-beer people, it’s like if you ordered a coke and they brought you root beer. Yes, both are sodas but not the same thing at all! Thankfully it somehow never showed up on the bill (divine retribution or dumb luck? Either way I’ll take it).
In closing, if you are a party of four or fewer, want flat pizza, and aren’t a beer snob (aka connoisseur), this is the place for you.
Pizza was good and the garden salad was actually a pretty good deal for what you get. I personally did take control of the juke box but a friend did and it was a ton of fun!
Pizza looked nice (was a hawaiian pizza) but was a bit lacking on the toppings.
They do not season the pizza. It is like eating cardboard. It is impressively bad but edible if you add enough salt from the salt shaker. How they made a hawaiian pizza taste like nothing is something I don’t want to know, but I was too hungry to care. Domino’s pizza is unironically better. Save your money and order out.
Wouldn’t come back again for a 20$ bad pizza.
