This Japanese restaurant that delivered an elegant dining experience. The atmosphere was calm, refined, and beautifully designed, making it easy to settle in and enjoy the evening.

The service stood out as exceptional, with staff who were attentive without hovering and knowledgeable at least for the questions we had. The food itself was excellent, prepared with care and presented with the kind of detail you hope for in a higher-end Japanese restaurant.

The food is very authentically prepared by chefs right before your eyes at the bar. Just a really fun place.

It is on the pricey side, but the overall quality, ambiance, and service made it feel worth it. A great choice for a quiet, night out.

Delicious omakase, elegant ambience, and friendly service. Dragon ball theme cocktails were a fun touch. Cool, modern spin on bibingka and very tasty too. The menu is priced higher but for special occasions and as far as quality goes, worth it. Had a really positive experience overall.

A truly remarkable experience. The staff was so friendly in greeting us, all congratulating us on a happy anniversary and making the night feel special without distractions. The food was spectacular, each dish elegantly plated with wonderful flavor combinations that brought it all together with each bite. The chefs clearly were passionate about their creations, describing the work that went into it and the origin of the fish selected. The drinks were so creative and specially crafted, all named after awesome dragon ball characters (huge plus for anime nerd like myself). This might be our favorite Japanese restaurant in Denver!

A friend of mine invited me out to a girls night over sushi at Kumoya, which I had never heard of. My sushi experience in Denver so far had been mediocre at best. But Kumoya changed everything! The sushi was so fresh, buttery in texture and literally melted in your mouth. I don’t know how else to describe it. The sushi chefs were very friendly and knowledgeable with regard to their craft, they didn’t gatekeep the secrets to their super fresh sushi either (Overnight fish shipments from Japan, the way the fish were put to rest and all).

The atmosphere was rich and lively, you can tell the employees really enjoy their jobs. Annie and Corey were the stars of the night! (Both were so bubbly and great conversationalists- Corey let my friends and I guess his name, a bit of a playful thing we do!) 10/10 would recommend for friends night outs, date nights, or a solo sushi adventure. Will be back!

Kumoya is definitely one of Denver’s hidden gems. I never expect great sushi so far from the ocean, but this place genuinely surprised me. The interior is warm and inviting, with two different seating areas: one more formal and the other more relaxed. We chose the open bar right in front of the chefs. Normally in spots like this you expect to see a traditional Japanese chef with decades of experience, and here the team looked a bit different, but it didn’t affect the quality at all. The service felt Michelin level.

From the menu we ordered the toro tartare, assorted sushi, a few sushi rolls (I’m usually not a fan of rolls but my boyfriend is), miso cod, and wagyu. The presentation was beautiful and fitting for every dish. I’ve always loved the combination of toro and black caviar, but I didn’t expect to find it executed this well in Denver. Their tartare was outstanding, and every plate that arrived at our table was a true pleasure.

I highly recommend coming to this restaurant and trying the chef’s recommendations. If I were a Michelin inspector, I would absolutely include them in the guide.

Disappointed with our experience at Kumoya. It wasn’t one major issue, but a series of small problems that added up to a poor overall experience.

We came in as a group of five. We started by asking questions about a $200+ bottle of sake that did not list an SMV. The only feedback we were given was that it was “sweet,” and no one could provide additional information. We ordered it anyway and it was good, but the lack of product knowledge was noticeable.

Once food arrived, we realized we had no soy sauce. We asked our waitress three times and were told it was “coming out,” but it never did. We eventually asked a busser, who immediately brought it over. Water glasses were left empty throughout the meal, and no water bottle was left at the table.

Our server seemed disengaged. Everyone can have an off day, which is understandable, but at a high-end restaurant there is still an expectation of professionalism and attentiveness.

We ordered real wasabi with no horseradish and were instead brought horseradish-mixed wasabi, which you are charged for. We also ordered a hamachi collar that was inedible — extremely fishy and clearly not fresh. It was sent back and not comped. Our salmon nigiri never came out at all.

There is also an automatic 20% service charge added to the bill. Given the service and multiple mistakes, it was frustrating to have no discretion, and it became clear why there was little urgency or accountability.

The only positive was that the nigiri itself was very good.

I’ve had great experiences here before, which makes this visit especially disappointing. It’s clear things have gone downhill, and with so many better sushi options in Denver, I won’t be returning unless there are serious changes in management and service.

Great overall experience. Had positive staff experience, especially with Grayson. The “omakase” is not truly omakase but more of a tasting menu; however, the food was delicious.

My friend just had her birthday dinner here and it was such a vibe! The spot is very moody and the music is great. My son had their ramen 10/10 and we had sushi that was also amazing but the drinks were the star of the night.

Had a really nice dinner here with friends! Everything was delicious and the staff was very attentive. It’s such a vibe and they have an extensive sake menu. Ask about their Japanese whiskey and you won’t be disappointed. (We did have the most incredible sushi too, just didn’t get a picture of it!)
