We stopped in for dinner. Reservations were made. They immediately walked us to our table and expertly took care of our dining needs. For my entree I had the ribeye steak with a side of creamed spinach. The steak was cooked at a perfect medium rare temperature. The creamed spinach was very good as well. My girlfriend had the clam chowder which was really tasty. In addition she also had the Wagyu dumplings which were very tasty, the spicy sauce was really good. For dessert we had the butter cake which was topped off with vanilla ice cream with a blueberry sauce. I really loved the cake, it was delicious.

The minute you walk into this restaurant it feels as though you’ve stepped back in time to a true NYC fancy steakhouse, from the waiters dressed in coats and bow ties , impeccable service , incredible food . All the small details made a huge difference to our dining experience with the popovers they bring you before you order your meal and then bc we were celebrating my partners birthday, they all signed a card and brought this huge sundae that was on the house . The whole experience was 10 / 10

I came super late on Sunday night and was greeted super kindly by the bartenders Abby and Nicolas. We got phenomenal service and very polite service even tho we came 930pm. 30 mins after kitchen closing. Then the manger Lila greeted us and she was an absolute pleasure to speak too. I will definitely be recommending this place to all my friends and family. Thank you so much!!OMG AND TRY THE CARRIT CAKE , and PUMPKIN CHEESECAKE

The ambience and service were impeccable. We came in town with a group for lunch. Wagyu sliders were the best I’ve ever had. The presentation on the Arnold Palmer was unforgettable. Highly recommend and will be back when we come back into Darien.

I had the pleasure of dining at your Darien location for my Mother’s birthday; my daughter has several allergies(eggs/nuts/shellfish). Your staff was phenomenal. Special shout out to Danielle the waitress and the exceptional service and warmth of your GM, Chris Petra. We made a reservation to come back in 2 weeks with my other daughter! Thanks for bringing your insanely delicious & exquisitely presented food to CT. Yummy fresh crab with avocado, tuna tartare and wagyu dumplings, filet mignon and halibut. WOW! What a great addition to our community!! And what an insane ice cream sundae – with edible chocolate cups around the plate – worth every calorie!

My husband and I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. The Prime NY Strip Steak was far too salty and wasn’t the best cut. The horseradish-crusted salmon was pretty good, though. Surprisingly, the salad with mozzarella ended up being the most delicious dish of the night.

We skipped dessert because the portions were massive — we prefer smaller, more refined options. Our waitress was friendly and clearly doing her best, but she was juggling multiple tables and we had to wait quite a while at times.

The restaurant’s interior design is tasteful and classical, which we appreciated. However, overall, the experience didn’t quite meet our expectations, and we don’t think we’ll be returning the next time we’re in the area.

Enjoy a NY dining experience without the commute! My husband and I enjoyed our anniversary dinner at Roots in Darien this past Friday night. It was our first time there and it did not disappoint.

We were greeted at the door and it was all up hill after that. Our waiter, Zed, was polite and very accommodating. The food was delicious. We were wondering why it was taking awhile for a check when around the corner came a glorious surprise anniversary desert – compliments of the house. Very nice touch.

The ambience was elegant, cozy and festive. We look forward to returning to Roots in the near future.

Excellent experience, the team is top notch. The food and atmosphere were nice. It’s a bit of an older school/ conservative feeling crowd overall. I didn’t love that we dined at a high top table adjacent to the bar for a reservation made in advance. Would have preferred it say that when making the reservation.

1) Great Bar energy. (Positive)
2) Love the cozy decor. (Positive)
3) I find the hosting staff (a woman) and a man a bit curt, rude & unaccommodating.
4) This was my 3rd time at this establishment, the first time we sat in the car in a cozy booth. Nice evening. (Positive experience, although overpriced & huge (over the top/way too much) portions.
5) We went to Roots on Thursday, 1/14 to sit in the bar and maybe some appetizers. We were told no, all tables were reserved. Yet several were empty as well as in the restaurant. They were not willing to accommodate us. And when they asked our name they saw I had made a reservation for tonight, 1/18. Yet they still shoved us off. I found that poor restaurant etiquette. There’s a way of doing these things in a polite & respectful manner. You demonstrate accommodation and say, listen these tables are booked, I have a reservation coming in at 7:00pm but if you want you can have the table until then, but then I will need the table. If you are ok with that I would be happy to seat you.” There’s a way to talk to and deal with people.
6) Tonight was my senior parent’s birthday. When I called to make the reservation last Tuesday, 1/12, I asked for a warm cozy table, away from the door, one with the banquet. I told the man my parent is a fragile, senior. I asked if we could be seated somewhere quiet. When we arrived we were about 25 minutes late. My family did call and say we were late, due to my senior parent’s difficulties. When we arrived we were left standing at the hostess desk with a young man & a woman at the computer hesitating and clearly trying to figure out where to put us. My poor senior parent could hardly stand and it took me & my family to hold her up. They finally said they were seating us & brought us to the back area after first saying they were going to seat us by the door. I said, “oh no” I specifically said away from the door when I made the reservation.” Then I asked why can’t we sit there (I pointed to the 2 tables with cozy banquets/booths) and the young man said, “oh we have reservations on those tables.” What?! What the heck did I have?! Um, I think it’s called a reservation! Check your computer-(Our name) for 4 at 6:00pm. Senior birthday dinner.
And to add another log to this flaming catastrophe, no one tried to help us. I will say the young man was nice, attempted to be helpful, but the senior gentleman, clearly a manager, just stood there with his hands folded, said take your time but made a better statue than anything else. I will say he did then take my parent’s walker to the front of the restaurant near the hostess station to house it. That was a kind gesture. But aside from that and the outrageously large ice cream sundae at the end of the meal (the birthday treat) no one came to wish my parent a happy birthday. My family member said the beef Wellington was very salty. (I tasted it, it was). My parent said the lobster tail was overcooked (chewy) as a result, it was! I tried it. Honestly, it was a disappointing experience.
I will close by saying you have a beautiful establishment but your management team, your food, your service (lots of people), but not necessarily efficient or prompt, and your prices leave a lot to be desired.

I’m a pushover for a popover! And it was a great way to kick off our birthday dinner at this new steakhouse in Darien. The place is lovely especially if you’re a party of four to enjoy the big comfy banquettes. (We were a twosome at a four-top.) The menu is typical a la carte steak house with prime cuts of beef and ample side dishes. We started with an onion soup and the arugula salad that were very good. Then a cowboy cut and a petite NY strip that didn’t need béarnaise or horseradish cream but hey, we were feeling saucy. Perfectly cooked, with a side of mashed that arrived piping hot in the appropriate skillet. The service is great, albeit overly bus-boyed. (Although I’m never crazy about the crumb-shaming in between courses.) Overall, it was a great meal except for one thing: the music. I reckon they have to cater to the bar side of the room and the expense-account tech bros, but a little dinner jazz or 40’s classics instead of top forty pop would have matched the room and elevated the experience. That said, they sealed the deal with an unbelievable ice cream sundae complete with every imaginable topping AND an embedded waffle cone. No complaints there! The name is a little confusing since I can’t connect Roots to Ocean or Prime but there’s steak and seafood and I’m happy they’ve planted the place in our hometown.
