If you’re looking for the ultimate BBQ experience, look no further—this place is a meat-lover’s paradise. The moist beef brisket and tender beef ribs are absolute standouts that literally fall off the bone it all, practically melting in your mouth with every bite.
Don’t skip the smoked chicken wings either; they have that perfect deep, smoky flavor that sets them apart from the standard bar fare.
The macaroni and cheese is incredibly creamy and often cited as a fan favorite.
The southern classics of greens, beans, potato salad, and coleslaw are all perfectly seasoned and provide the ideal balance to the rich meats.
By all means, you have to save room for the apple cobbler topped with a small cup of Blue Bell vanilla ice cream—it’s the best way to end the meal.
I’ll be back as soon and humanly possible.
Favorites were the chopped brisket and mac and cheese, but everything on the menu is very good. Whatever you pick, you can’t go wrong. They ran out of the pork burnt ends at about 12:30 just before we got to the front of the line, so unfortunately we didn’t get to try them. The ribs were just too exorbitantly expensive to even consider ordering.
Be prepared to wait in line for potentially hours and spend ~$35 per person for takeout or just to eat on picnic benches in a rundown shack of a building. Wait time at 11:45am on a rainy summer Saturday was close to 2 hours. $170 fed our group of 5.
Is it worth the wait and the high cost of admission? If you’re looking for the best barbecue in the south, probably not. If you’re new to the area like me, and have been struggling to find good barbecue for months or years, then yes, you’ll definitely want to try it for yourself!
The owner is very nice, friendly and really cares about the customer experience. He makes some great food and he deserves all the hype and the waves of acclaim he’s riding. If I’m in the area again and the wait is shorter I’d definitely eat here again. I still need to try the ribs, hash, cobbler and more!
It was like being invited in to the City Limits home and served like family!
I arrived about 11:30 on Sunday for their 12:00 opening.
The chef came out while we were in line and gave us a run down of what to expect(timing) and the specials of the day.
I had to try all the meats so ended up with a hot dog, pulled pork, chopped brisket and burnt ends (Char Sui style).
The meats were all cooked so perfect I did not use any of the tasty sauces on the side!!
The homemade hot dog was smoked and covered with delicious brisket chili.
I did the sweet beans – perfectly cooked pintos that are very similar to our family recipe and the greens beans that were juicy and delicious.
While they are only open 9 hours a week I’ll have to be more careful to plan my Columbia travel timing.
Thanks to the Chef and crew for a great meal.
As you can imagine… The food was SPECTACULAR. Look, the brisket was absolutely top-notch and this beef rib was possibly the most tender chunk of meat I have ever had. We also got a half pound of their chopped whole hog option with crispy skins, and while it was delicious and flavorful, it didn’t have the smoke or barbecue flavor without sauce that I was looking for. Of course, we had to go with practically an appetizer sampler of the sides and if I would’ve been able to put the food away, I would have just ordered one of everything. The collard greens were really good and not overly bitter, this sweet jalapeño coleslaw was maybe one of my favorite coleslaw recipes I’ve ever had, but the star of the show in my opinion were the sweet beans which was what most people would call baked beans. The amount of time, effort, and attention to every flavor in these beans was 10/10. Talk about bringing a humble ingredient to life. The cornbread was as amazing as you would imagine and the carrot cake was delicious. If you’re looking for something unique with their barbecue, opt for the brisket sandwich with chili con queso or the Texicano. I was being a purist snob and just wanted the beef rib, but I stole a bite of my sister‘s sandwich and holy cow… Starve yourself the day before you visit, arrive early, and prepare to have a religious experience.
What really sets this spot apart is the pit master. He actually comes out to the line to explain how each meat is cooked, sharing the smoking process and recommending the best cuts of the day. It’s a small touch that makes the experience feel personal and authentic.
Overall, a memorable, delicious meal that shows real pride in the craft of barbecue.
I ordered The Sandy hotdog, and it was hands down the BEST hotdog I’ve ever had. The hotdog itself was smoked to perfection, and the chili and slaw on top took it to another level. Absolutely incredible.
I’ll definitely be back (and earlier this time) to finally try the BBQ. Just a heads up they’re only open on Saturdays and Sundays, so make sure you get there early before they sell out. If the hotdog is this good, I can only imagine how amazing the rest of the menu is!
