Very pleased with the atmosphere, service on brunch Sunday is hectic. However the food was mediocre. A bit loud in some areas. Nick the manager is very professional and accommodating. It was a very long wait time to get a server to help with our beverage orders. A large selection of food to choose from.

Ate here before a show at The Fillmore. Happy hour all day and food is priced moderately. Would definitely consider coming back before a show in the future.

Note, there is a full dining room area and seats in the bar area.

My Mom and I had a delicious dinner here. We were in the mood for seafood, and this restaurant hit it out of the park. We ordered the seafood pasta and the seafood stew, and both were delicious. We even saved room for dessert. The cocktails were also excellent, and our waiter was very funny. Highly recommend this place on a Friday night! Good vibes.

I will definitely go back but I’m not rushing to do so. Food was good, some excellent (homemade ice cream) some just okay. Staff were great, friendly and attentive. Now the issues: Made a reservation through Resy, had to call and get the garage code. They did not put in one of the orders, they did apologize several times . I received one small pebble of lobster in my lobster bisque (that I paid extra for). Speaking of the soup, they come in huge bowls with a tiny basin – it’s not a lot of soup but seems like even less with this presentation.

Had a really horrible experience here where I ordered a medium well steak and they bought me a medium rare steak. I sent it back to the kitchen and the chef came out to explain to me that he wasn’t going to cook it more because that’s what I ordered, even though I asked him to still cook it more

Perfect place for a fancy or celebratory dinner in Silver Spring. The speciality is seafood but the meat offerings are great as well. The venison chops that were offered as a special one evening were delicious. And the cocktails are fun and generous. The curtained booths are an especially lovely place to dine. The parking garage is a tight squeeze so give yourself plenty of time to park.

J. Hollinger’s Waterman’s Chophouse in Silver Spring feels like the kind of place Anthony Bourdain would clock immediately—not flashy, not desperate to be cool, but quietly confident in the way a good kitchen should be. It’s a room built for grown-ups: dark wood, low light, the hum of conversation, the promise that someone back there actually knows how to cook a steak without turning it into a crime scene. This isn’t a concept; it’s a craft. You come here because you’re hungry for something honest, animal, and done right.

The steak is the headline act, and it earns the ink. Properly seasoned, aggressively seared, rested like someone cared about its well-being. You cut into it and there’s no drama—just beef doing what beef is supposed to do. The seafood, too, pulls its weight, reminding you that “chophouse” doesn’t have to mean tunnel vision. Sides arrive like old friends: potatoes that respect butter, greens that know salt is not the enemy. This is food that doesn’t ask for forgiveness or explanation.

What makes Waterman’s work is restraint. No foam, no twee garnishes, no lectures about provenance—just solid technique and a respect for the diner. Silver Spring could use more places like this: establishments that don’t chase trends but outlast them. You eat well, you drink something stiff, you leave satisfied and a little quieter than when you arrived. That’s not nostalgia. That’s a restaurant doing its damn job.

I was so disappointed with the food here. It was very bland and flavorless. It was nicely presented though. Other than that our server was very nice and attentive. She had great energy, and was pleasant to be around. I probably won’t come back for the food, only for happy hour, and the ambiance. It is a very nice looking restaurant, the food’s just not that great.

Stumbled across this place for my birthday dinner. Food was really bomb. Didn’t need to add any sauce or seasoning. The portion size was good because it wasn’t too much or too little. The waiter was great. He was very attentive and sharp when it came to accommodating my group. We did have one hiccup where there was an actual moving green worm in my sister’s salad. Never experienced that before but didn’t make it a big deal. I believe it’s because maybe they produce their own salads. The waiter reassured us that he had it all covered. The issue was fixed quickly. The atmosphere was such a vibe and the employees were all friendly.
