SGT Rick’s is off the beatin path. But well worth the trip. Was greeted by SGT Rick as soon as we came thru the door! We grabbed a booth and looked over the menu. Got a patty melt, tenderloin sandwich and tater tots. All very tasty.
Atmosphere was very laid back with a few local folk eating and chatting. We’re planning to return in the future to try some of SGT Rick’s other offerings.

This restaurant is the real Devil Dog Diner. It is the perfect Marine Corps cave with all your love me, Marine Corps vibes. Then top the John Wayne atmosphere off with awesome BBQ items and comfort foods. The brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and burgers were served with great fries, baked beans, potatoe salad, and slaw. SGT Rick is the drill instructor Jarhead running this hidden gem, right in the heart of Freetown, IN. Population 410. I was with our Marine Corps League Chapter 1394 Officers and NCO’s. I promise you will love the food and people here. Desserts are amazing cobbler and pie with ice cream. Their is a SOP. Do not ask for breakfast after 10:30…. Check the hours before driving here, as it is not open 24/7 like we wish it was!

Best dining experience I’ve had in a long time! We were treated like family as soon as we walked in the door, and the food was incredible! Sgt. Rick’s is the kind of place that makes you proud to be an American. I can’t wait to return with friends and family, and highly recommend this establishment to anyone who enjoys good food and ever better company! Semper Fi, Sgt. Rick!

I had seen ads for Sgt. Rick’s on Facebook, and being a Marine family, my mom and I definitely wanted to support a veteran-owned business. The food was phenomenal! I had the Pulled Pork Deluxe Nachos and Loaded Tater Tots, my mom had a BLT with fries, and fried mushrooms on the side. The pulled pork on my nachos was the bomb, some of the best I’ve have in awhile. The portions were huge and we left stuffed. We enjoyed the military decor. We didn’t feel particularly welcome when we first walked in (its VERY small town and we aren’t “from around here”), but Rick was very nice as we were chatting with him towards the end of our visit. We will definitely be back to try out some of the other menu options.

I stopped in this place one morning on my way to work. I travel to different districts and had never been to Freetown before. This was the only place I could find that was open before the business I work at was open. I’m so glad I stopped in! The home cooked breakfast was amazing! The hospitality, atmosphere and service was top notch. I really recommend it!

Sgt Rick’s American Grill & BBQ has officially become one of my new favorite spots. Honestly, it was hard to even decide what to order because everything on the menu sounded amazing. I ended up going with the pulled pork nachos, and they were hands-down the best nachos I’ve ever had. The flavors were incredible and the portion was perfect.

I can’t recommend this place enough — my only regret is that I don’t live closer!

I’m often down around here on my motorcycle as this area has some of the best roads in the state to ride on. I’ve seen the place a few times and knew from the look of it I was in for some good BBQ. Yesterday afternoon I decided to go in.

Food: I got the brisket plate with 2 sides and a drink for ~20 bucks. On the slightly more expensive side but man it did not disappoint (there was also cheaper options that included brisket). Brisket fat was rendered beautifully with a good ratio of fat:meat. The BBQ sauce was exceptional. The mac and cheese was delightful and the fries were krinkle cut and nice and crispy. I can confidently say this is the best brisket I have ever had in the state of Indiana.

Atmosphere: Was relaxed, seat yourself with plenty of seating available. The decorum was what I would expect out of a joint like this. Lots of interesting stuff to look at on the walls. They had TVs with the news on. I may opt for music or maybe even Westerns instead since the news is unfortunately often depressing these days but I expect the older folks appreciate it.

Service: Was nothing short of excellent. The waitress had taken my drink order almost as soon as I sat down. Food was delivered hot. Someone I believed to be the owner had a quiet warmth about him. He was sure to ask how I enjoyed the food which I always appreciate from an owner. Its important to seek feedback in order to improve. There was none to give, this place is awesome and I will definitely be going back with friends and family soon. Cannot recommend it enough. If you are a fan of BBQ you should definitely make your way out to Freetown.

Looking over the menu this morning, and there are sooo many great items to choose from ALL day long. Please give this place a try, I promise you won’t be disappointed and you will be planning a second trip back before you pay for your meal!! It was so nice to eat at a place with such great customer service and in an atmosphere that, without a doubt honors those that have fought for our freedoms!
