Reservation system is broken. Had 6.30 dinner appointment but waited for over 45 minutes – the same length of time as the walk-ins. But wait it gets worse…we eventually got seated but no chef! Chefs serving tables around us but not ours. Had to wait for them to finish before they came to ours to serve us. What the actual hell is this service? We arrived at 6.30 and left at 9.49 exactly. We were theast ones in the restaurant. Its not the chef but the management for their incompetence at hiring staff on busy days. Bar staff deserve their fair share of criticism too, as drinks took 30 min per round. Didn’t get water until end of the meal. We asked three times throughout. We had to request the shrimp appetizer and then the green tea – which was served incorrectly. First and last experience here. Leadership comes from the top so faults lie with the management.

Ben was our server, and he was very friendly and attentive. We got in and out in a reasonable time for a workday lunch, and the food was great! Thanks, Ben!

Ben was my bartender/server and the service was phenomenal! He made the drinks himself and they were very beautiful and delicious. He was very attractive, I mean attentive during a busy lunch rush!

This was my first time going to Benihana, and I went to celebrate my best friend. I was really excited because I’ve always heard about the fun hibachi experience with the onion volcano, juggling, and all the chef interaction. Unfortunately, that just didn’t happen for us. Our chef barely interacted — a couple small questions here and there, but no real show or energy, which kind of made the night feel flat.

We had reservations for three people at 7 o’clock. We got our drinks at 7:34. We didn’t get any food until an hour later and then we left at 8:56 PM even though our dinner was a bit on the later evening side I feel like if I’m being paid to get the experience of the show, it would be expected. I also hear really low comments being made from our server when I was given two miso soups and a salad (which I stated I didn’t want) something under her breath in regards to her taking it back.

The food itself was okay, but not great. It had way too much butter, some of the meat didn’t seem cooked properly, and the shrimp ended up a bit rubbery. The portions also felt really small for the price. Altogether, it just wasn’t what I expected from Benihana, especially for a celebration. I left feeling disappointed instead of excited to come back.

I am beyond frustrated with our experience at the Columbus Benihana. We had a 5:45 PM reservation for a party of four, yet we weren’t even seated until after 6:20 PM. The delays were relentless; a chef did not arrive at our table until 7:30 PM—nearly two hours after our scheduled time.

The state of the restaurant is appalling. It is visibly dirty and looks completely mismanaged. Most concerning was the grease and steam residue dripping from the overhead hood directly onto our clean plates before the chef even was at the table. This is stomach-turning sight when you are paying for a premium dining experience. Throughout this entire ordeal, not a single manager was visible on the floor to address the filth or the staggering delays.

The only reason this isn’t a one-star review is our chef, Alvaro. He was an absolute professional and the only bright spot in a dismal evening. He was incredibly diligent with a shellfish allergy at our table and perfectly handled a picky eater’s request for food separation. He was attentive, skilled, and accommodating—it is a shame such a talented chef is working in a facility that is this poorly maintained and neglected.

Summary: Between the lack of management and the unsanitary conditions (dripping grease), this location is a disaster. Alvaro is a 5-star chef in a 0-star building.

This place has downgraded from what it used to be. Haven’t been here in years, went there set at the bar.All the tables were dirty with not any customers in sight. The manager with the braids and suit walks around like he’s busy and he’s doing absolutely nothing. Have us just waiting in the lobby with no people in the restaurant. Standing around talking to other employees, laughing, making jokes servers, everybody’s walking past you, like they don’t see you no sense of urgency. The only thing that was good with this trip was the food even though they forgot to give us rice and I had to clean my own table with napkins, get my own chopsticks and get my own napkins. ThenBartender was a sweetheart , but other than that , they need to clean the place up and be more professional. I was so upset.I didn’t even stay for my birthday dessert and instead of the manager apologizing obviously visibly noticing that we were upset while leaving. He continued to talk to another server and active oblivious to everything that was happening. Never again for a special day.

I have been going to Benihana for a while. This time I had a 1.5 hour wait…. But

I had the best food and experience at the Teppan table. The chef Austin was very engaging and prepared food very well to each and everyone’s liking. We had an empty plate when we left. The service was excellent and all the staff were very courteous.

By the time we left we were more than satisfied with everything.

The 4 stars for the wait even though we had reservations. This means the reservation system need to be optimized. If the restaurant reads this so they can make changes.
